Sherrard Community Unit School District #200, Sherrard, Illinois, has an opening for an assistant mechanic for the transportation department. The position is a 12-month position, 8 hours per day. Must be willing to get CDL and bus driver certification.

JOB DESCRIPTION

TITLE: Assistant Mechanic, Transportation Program


QUALIFICATIONS: Must have at least one year experience in diesel maintenance and/or repair.
Must possess a valid driver's license
Evidence of initiative, ingenuity, loyalty and willingness to cooperate.


REPORTS TO: Head Mechanic or Superintendent


PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:

1. Maintain all district-owned diesel bus fleet and gas vehicles.

1. Primary duties include oil changes, replace hydraulic brake systems, remove and replace transmissions, maintain air conditioning systems and major repairs as needed.

1. Maintain safety standards in conformance with state and insurance regulations.

1. Maintain accurate record of repairs and general maintenance on district-owned vehicles.

1. Communicate with Transportation Supervisor, Head Mechanic and drivers regarding vehicle condition and needed repairs.

1. To perform any other duties as requested by the immediate supervisor.

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: Work year to be established annually by the Board of Education.


COMPENSATION: To be set annually by the Board of Education.


EVALUATION: Performance of this job will be evaluated annually by the Superintendent of Schools
