Heavy Equipment Diesel Mechanic (Track) in Lutz

Summary of Primary Functions Dobbs Equipment is seeking an experienced Track Service Technician. This position is responsible for performing inspection, diagnosis, and repair of heavy equipment undercarriage in a shop environment. The job involves removing and installing complete undercarriages, including tracks, roller frames, rollers, idlers, and sprocket segments, as well as repairing broken link assemblies with cutting torch equipment. Essential Functions and Responsibilities Follow all safety rules and regulations while maintaining a safe work environment. Work independently with limited supervision. Prepare and submit all required reports and forms. Report any additional work required on equipment to the Service Manager. Participate in all training programs as directed by the Service Manager. Maintain a clean work area and perform work in a neat and orderly fashion. Notify the Service Manager of any shop tools, equipment, or vehicles that are not serviceable or are unsafe. Present a professional image and conduct yourself in a professional manner. Demonstrate extensive knowledge of John Deere equipment, specifically undercarriage systems, and proficiency with comparable brand equipment. Perform inspections as required. Check and report any shortages or malfunctions. Use current computer software and related hardware proficiently. Remove and install tracks, rollers, idlers, and sprockets. Operate equipment safely. Perform all service tasks assigned by the Service Manager, Supervisor, or Shop Foreman. Work up to 12‑hour days, varying shifts, weekends, and holidays as needed. Operate company vehicles and follow all motor vehicle safety laws if necessary. Adhere to safety policies of Dobbs Equipment and clients. Qualifications Valid Driver’s License with a clean driving record. Knowledge of industrial equipment maintenance and operation. Ability to perform basic repairs and required maintenance using special tools and equipment following Technical Manual procedures. Ability to operate heavy equipment safely around the shop. Education, Skill, and/or Experience Requirements Associate degree from a two‑year college or technical school, or a minimum of two years of related experience. Stay current with technical changes. Proficient knowledge of mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic systems. Maintain current product knowledge of John Deere and competitive products. Forklift certification. Effective communication skills with teammates. Strong problem‑solving skills. Excellent time‑management skills. Self‑management and self‑motivation. Flexible schedule, including weekends or overtime. Reading and interpreting safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Writing diagnosis and work completed on routine reports and correspondence. Apply common sense understanding to carry out instruction in written, oral, or diagram form. Develop skills in disassembly, assembly, and repair of components and machines. Basic arithmetic in all units of measure using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Quick learner with creative thinking. Occasional overnight travel (less than 5% of the time). Bilingual ability is a plus. Work Environment The employee regularly works in a service shop setting exposed to frequently changing temperatures, wet or humid conditions, noise, vibration, fumes, odors, dust, and close proximity to moving mechanical parts. Physical Demands Use personal protective equipment, including welding shields, hard hats, vests, safety glasses, goggles, and gloves. Full range of motion for back, arms, hands, fingers, and legs, including climbing, twisting, squatting, and pushing. Use hand tools and equipment such as fuel hoses and lubrication systems. Climb onto or down from mobile construction equipment, typically 3–4 feet. Lift or carry loads between 50 lbs and 75 lbs repeatedly.
