Principal Duties and Responsibilities

Liturgical Leadership and Parish Worship

Plan, coordinate, and oversee all parish liturgies, including Sundays, Holy Days, sacramental celebrations, and other special liturgical events.

Assist individuals and families in planning funeral liturgies and coordinate with funeral homes and related organizations as appropriate.

Coordinate the recruiting, training, scheduling, and support of liturgical ministers, including lectors, Extraordinary Ministers of Holy Communion, sacristans, servers, and others.

Prepare worship aids, liturgical resources, and materials necessary for parish worship and special liturgical celebrations.

Oversee the procurement, maintenance, and stewardship of liturgical books, sacred vessels, vestments, altar linens, sacramental supplies, and other worship resources.

Ensure worship-related technology and equipment, including sound systems, microphones, lighting, and other liturgical support systems, are maintained and functioning properly.

Music Ministry

Provide leadership for the parish music ministry by planning, selecting, and directing music for liturgical celebrations throughout the liturgical year.

Lead music at weekend Masses, Holy Days, sacramental celebrations, funerals, weddings, and other special parish liturgies as assigned.

Direct parish choirs, including recruitment, formation, rehearsal, and support of members.

Recruit, train, schedule, and support cantors, accompanists, instrumentalists, and other volunteer musicians.

Coordinate rehearsals and provide ongoing formation and encouragement to those serving in music ministry.

Select music that reflects the liturgical season, scriptural themes, and pastoral needs of the parish while adhering to Catholic liturgical principles.

Maintain music libraries, accompaniment resources, and worship materials necessary to support parish music ministry.

Ensure compliance with copyright regulations through the maintenance of appropriate music licensing agreements.

Requirements

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Demonstrated knowledge of Roman Catholic liturgical theology, sacramental practices, and current liturgical norms.

Proficiency in music leadership, including vocal leadership and keyboard accompaniment.

Experience directing choirs and coordinating volunteer ministry programs.

Strong organizational, interpersonal, and communication skills.

Ability to recruit, train, supervise, and support volunteers effectively.

Ability to collaborate with clergy, parish staff, and diverse groups of parishioners.

Proficiency with liturgical planning resources, music software, and office technology.

Availability to work evenings, weekends, Holy Days, and other times necessary to fulfill the liturgical schedule of the parish.

Education and Experience
Practicing Roman Catholic in good standing with a commitment to the mission and teachings of the Catholic Church.

Bachelor's degree in Liturgy, Sacred Music, Theology, Pastoral Ministry, Music Education, or a related field preferred.
