Join our growing team at Blue Horizon Engineering as a Mechanical Engineer specializing in residential mechanical and plumbing design. This position offers the opportunity to work on a variety of residential projects, including luxury custom homes, single-family residences, townhomes, renovations, and new construction throughout South Florida.

\n

The ideal candidate will have hands-on experience designing HVAC and plumbing systems, preparing construction documents, and utilizing Revit and AutoCAD. This is a design-focused position responsible for developing accurate, efficient, and code-compliant mechanical and plumbing plans for residential projects.

Responsibilities

• Develop detailed mechanical and plumbing designs for residential new construction, renovations, and additions.
\n
• Prepare accurate mechanical and plumbing construction drawings using Revit and AutoCAD.
\n
• Design HVAC systems, including equipment selection, cooling load calculations, ductwork layouts, and ventilation systems.
\n
• Design residential plumbing systems, including domestic water distribution, sanitary drainage, vent piping, and plumbing fixture layouts.
\n
• Perform HVAC load calculations and equipment sizing using industry-standard engineering software.
\n
• Review architectural and structural drawings to ensure proper integration of mechanical and plumbing systems.
\n
• Identify and resolve design conflicts between mechanical, plumbing, architectural, structural, and electrical systems.
\n
• Prepare permit-ready construction documents in compliance with the Florida Building Code and applicable local regulations.
\n
• Review and respond to building department comments and revise engineering drawings as required.
\n
• Prepare mechanical and plumbing design revisions based on architectural updates and engineering redlines.
\n
• Ensure accuracy, completeness, and consistency of mechanical and plumbing drawings throughout the design process.

Requirements

\n

• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field.
\n
• Proven experience in residential mechanical and plumbing engineering design.
\n
• Proficiency in Revit and AutoCAD is required.
\n
• Strong knowledge of residential HVAC systems, ductwork design, cooling load calculations, and equipment selection.
\n
• Experience designing residential plumbing systems, including domestic water supply, sanitary drainage, and vent systems.
\n
• Familiarity with the Florida Building Code, mechanical and plumbing codes, and local permitting requirements.
\n
• Experience preparing mechanical and plumbing construction documents for residential projects.
\n
• Ability to read and interpret architectural, structural, and engineering drawings.
\n
• Strong understanding of Building Information Modeling (BIM) and multidisciplinary design coordination.
\n
• Excellent attention to detail and the ability to produce accurate, high-quality engineering drawings.
\n
• Ability to work independently, incorporate engineering redlines, and meet established design deadlines.

Preferred Qualifications

\n
• Experience working on residential projects throughout South Florida, including Broward and Miami-Dade counties.
\n
• Experience designing mechanical and plumbing systems for luxury custom homes and large-scale residential renovations.
\n
• Proficiency with HVAC load calculation software such as Carrier HAP or similar programs.
\n
