Position Summary
The Advanced Practice Provider (Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant) provides comprehensive, high-quality care to patients presenting with acute, episodic, and select chronic health conditions in the urgent care setting. This role practices with a high degree of autonomy, either independently or alongside a collaborating provider, while serving patients across the lifespan.
The APP functions as an integral member of the interdisciplinary healthcare team and is responsible for assessment, diagnosis, treatment, minor office-based procedures, patient education, and care coordination. Weekend and holiday rotations are required.
The APP practices within the scope of applicable state laws, licensure requirements, clinical privileges, and organizational policies.
Essential Responsibilities
Clinical Care
· Assess, diagnose, and develop treatment plans for patients based on clinical findings, evidence-based practice, and patient-specific needs.
· Order, perform, and interpret diagnostic tests, laboratory studies, and imaging.
· Prescribe medications and implement pharmacologic and non-pharmacologic treatment plans.
· Perform minor medical and surgical procedures within scope of practice and granted privileges.
· Manage conditions utilizing evidence-based, cost-effective approaches while evaluating risks, benefits, and treatment alternatives.
· Provide health promotion, disease prevention, and disease management education to patients and families.
· Recognize situations requiring consultation, referral, or escalation to a higher level of care.
· Serve as a patient advocate and promote positive patient experiences.
· Document all patient encounters accurately, thoroughly, and timely within the electronic medical record.
· Ensure appropriate coding, billing, and regulatory compliance.
Collaboration and Leadership
· Work collaboratively with physicians, nurses, medical assistants, and other healthcare professionals to coordinate patient care.
· Facilitate clear and timely communication among healthcare team members and community resources.
· Participate in quality improvement, patient safety, peer review, and performance initiatives.
· Attend departmental, practice, and organizational meetings as requested.
· Assist with onboarding, education, and mentoring of new team members and healthcare learners.
· Serve as a clinical role model and resource for colleagues.
· Support the development and implementation of clinical policies and procedures.
Qualifications
Nurse Practitioner
Required
· Master's Degree in Nursing or Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP)
· Current Registered Nurse license in the State of North Carolina
· Current North Carolina Nurse Practitioner approval to practice
· National certification in area of practice from a recognized certifying body
· Family Nurse Practitioner (FNP) or Pediatric Nurse Practitioner (PNP) certification, as appropriate
· Current DEA registration or ability to obtain prior to start date
· Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification
Preferred
· Prior experience in Urgent Care, Emergency Medicine, Family Medicine, or Acute Care settings
· Advanced procedural skills and urgent care experience
Physician Assistant
Required
· Bachelor's Degree or higher from an accredited Physician Assistant program
· Current North Carolina Physician Assistant license
· National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants (NCCPA) certification
· Current DEA registration or ability to obtain prior to start date
· Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification
Preferred
· Prior experience in Urgent Care, Emergency Medicine, Family Medicine, or Acute Care settings
· Advanced procedural skills and urgent care experience
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
· Strong clinical assessment, diagnostic, and decision-making skills.
· Ability to practice independently while collaborating effectively within a multidisciplinary team.
· Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
· Strong organizational skills with the ability to prioritize multiple responsibilities.
· Proficiency with electronic medical records and healthcare technology.
· Commitment to evidence-based practice, quality improvement, and patient-centered care.
· Ability to perform effectively in fast-paced and high-volume clinical environments.
Physical Requirements

· Frequent standing, walking, sitting, bending, reaching, stooping, pushing, and pulling.
· Ability to lift and support up to 35 pounds.
· Functional vision, hearing, speech, touch, and manual dexterity.
· Ability to respond effectively in urgent and stressful situations.
· Ability to operate medical equipment and perform clinical procedures safely and effectively.
