General Mechanic

We are seeking a Maintenance Technician to respond to departmental maintenance needs, perform repairs and preventive maintenance of electrical, mechanical, and plumbing systems, and support specialty systems within our hospital or clinic setting. Shift Hours Mon - Fri 7:00 a.m. – 3:30 p.m. Education High School diploma or equivalent. Work Experience Preferred: Trade school or company school. Required: 2 years of experience in Commercial, Industrial, or Hospital Maintenance, or completion of the Ochsner Apprenticeship program. Preferred: Healthcare Experience. Certifications Valid driver’s license in the state of residence. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSAs) Experience with all hand and power tools. Familiar with plumbing, electrical, HVAC-R, and carpentry. Strong interpersonal skills with a can‑do attitude. Mechanically inclined, able to multi‑task and work with minimal supervision. Knowledge of state, parish, and building codes, and JCAHO standards. Self‑directed, able to handle mental and physical stress to complete jobs, including emergencies. Able to work indoors, outdoors, and in restricted spaces for extended periods. Basic knowledge of mechanical and electrical symbols, blueprints, schematics, and mechanical drawings. Ability to handle power and hand tools required to perform job duties effectively. Strong troubleshooting and problem‑solving skills, capable of applying effective judgment when performing duties. Willing to work on‑call for emergencies and extended hours. Job Duties Perform general inspections, troubleshooting, and repairs of minor electrical, mechanical, and plumbing items within the hospital or clinic setting (e.g., unclogging plumbing lines, replacing light bulbs, replacing ceiling tile, repairing leaking faucets, painting touch‑ups). Follow up on completed assignments to ensure equipment is working appropriately. Respond to and repair specialty systems, such as nurse call, fire alarm, television, medical gas, and ceiling systems. Complete preventive maintenance inspections according to scheduled checkpoints and maintain documentation. Assist with any maintenance on associated equipment within assigned area(s). Perform other related duties as required. Assist other hospital and clinic departments with daily maintenance and support services as needed. Assist with repairs and upkeep of facilities structures and building systems. Remain onsite during severe weather emergencies or disaster events within assigned area. Compliance and Privacy Remains knowledgeable on current federal, state, and local laws, accreditation standards or regulatory agency requirements that apply to the assigned area of responsibility and ensures compliance with all such laws, regulations, and standards. Complies with the Ochsner Health System and its managed entities’ Compliance & Privacy Program and Standards of Conduct, including immediate reporting of any known or suspected unethical or questionable behavior. Physical and Environmental Demands Heavy work may involve exerting 50 to 100 pounds of force occasionally, or 25 to 50 pounds frequently, or 10 to 20 pounds constantly to move objects. Work may include walking, standing, pushing and pulling, and meeting a production rate pace. The job involves exposure to blood, body fluids, and potential communicable diseases in isolation rooms.
