About Westville Correctional Facility:
Westville Correctional Facility is a multi‑level security facility located in Westville, Indiana, with a capacity of more than 3,400 incarcerated adult males. Originally built as a state hospital, the campus was converted to a correctional facility in 1979. The institution offers numerous programs focused on education, re‑entry, and community service. Partnerships include Gold Standard Truss, which operates a truss manufacturing site on facility grounds, and the Moreau College Initiative through the University of Notre Dame and Holy Cross College. Role Overview:
As a MaintenanceSupervisor at the Westville Correctional Facility, you will be responsible for the repair and preventive maintenance needs of the facility. We are a full-service maintenance team that handles a wide variety of plumbing, electrical, HVAC, carpentry, and grounds issues. You must be able to handle multiple tasks and will be responsible for the proper operation and repair of assigned buildings, structures, and grounds. You will work independently and possess sufficient knowledge to direct maintenance and repair work. Failure to correct operational and systematic problems could result in higher operation costs, loss of revenue, or an unsafe environment.
Salary:
The salary for this position traditionally starts at $47,320.00 but may be commensurate with education and work experience. Depending on the retirement plan you choose, the total compensation value of a $47,320.00 salary, including the State’s retirement contributions, can reach approximately $71,928.62. A Day in the Life:
The essential functions of this role are as follows:
- Plan the work schedules based on priorities and deadlines for providing facility and maintenance services.
- Identify resource needs, review needs with appropriate management staff, and allocate resources accordingly.
- Develop and recommend work rules and quality control processes impacting operations.
- Develop and organize preventative maintenance and safety inspection programs for all facilities and equipment.
- Ensure compliance with all federal, state, and local safety-related rules, regulations, policies, and procedures. In addition, you will investigate accidents.
- Prepare and maintain work reports such as work logs, timesheets, accident reports, etc.
- Install, inspect, repair, and maintain the electrical, plumbing, paint, carpet, appliances, mechanical, and other related systems in all facility locations.
- Inspect, operate, and maintain the heating, cooling, and ventilation systems (including boiler system) in all facility locations.
- Provide equipment, procedural, and systems training to new and existing employees to perform the requisite job skills. This may include conducting regular onsite facility and grounds maintenance safety training.
- Responsible for administering the budget line items for maintenance and repair.
- Maintain sufficient inventories of tools, parts, and supplies to properly service the facility and grounds.
- Order, prepare specifications, and purchase supplies, equipment, and contract work according to required purchasing and bidding procedures.
- Develop and maintain relationships with vendors.
- Recruit, select, onboard, and train employees to ensure role responsibilities and expectations are clearly understood while providing opportunities to continue professional development.
- Set expectations, measure progress, provide ongoing feedback, and evaluate the performance of employees. Ensure work adheres to quality standards, deadlines, and proper procedures.

This position is exempt from overtime compensation for additional work hours which may be required to complete essential functions or other assigned work. Exempt employees may work more than 75 hours in a pay period without additional compensation and must report a minimum of 75 hours per pay period of work hours and/or paid leave taken to receive their base biweekly salary.
What You'll Need for Success:
Individuals in this role should minimally be able to articulate or demonstrate the following:
- Be willing to travel with reasonable accommodation.
- Possess a Commercial Driver’s License (CDL).
- Advanced knowledge of variety of trades related to installation, inspection, repair, and maintenance of electrical, plumbing, and other related systems in all facility locations.
- Thorough knowledge of occupational hazards and corresponding safety precautions necessary for the safe performance of assigned duties.
- Advanced knowledge of the tools, methods, practices, materials, and equipment used in the building and mechanical trades.
- Working knowledge of local, state, and federal laws, ordinances, codes, and rules governing repair, maintenance, and construction of facilities.
- Working knowledge of and ability to plan, understand, and interpret detailed plans, specifications, and blueprints.
- Ability to make long-range plans, schedule preventative maintenance and seasonal maintenance, as well as prioritize routine and emergency repairs.
- Ability to delegate work, set clear direction, and manage workflow.
- Ability to effectively give feedback, provide guidance or corrective action, coach, and develop employee skillsets.
A degree is not required. However, a High School Diploma or High School Equivalent (HSE) and at least 2 years of experience in maintenance, construction, or related field with a minimum of one (1) year of supervisory experience applying the outlined knowledge, skills, and abilities in a similar role may be considered.

Supervisory Responsibilities/Direct Reports:
This role may provide direct supervision for one or more staff members.
This role provides supervision for incarcerated individuals and requires a high level of judgment and care.
