Radiology Tech

Minimum Qualifications Current Radiography license required by the state board where services will be performed (MD: Radiographer License through Maryland Board of Physicians; OH: Radiographer License through Ohio Department of Health; PA: No state licensure required; WV: Radiography License through West Virginia Medical Imaging and Radiation Therapy Technology Board). Registered by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) in Radiography. Certification in Basic Life Support within 30 days of hire. Completed state criminal background check and Federal background check (if applicable) as required for regulated areas. Experience One (1) year of experience as a Radiologic Technologist. Core Duties and Responsibilities Rotate in all Diagnostic areas to develop technical skills, including Fluoroscopy, Mobiles, Routine, Operating Room, Endoscopy, Orthopedics. Perform image procedures based on patient status, service requests, and imaging protocols, with periodic evaluation and supervision. Produce images of optimal quality using imaging equipment and systems for image delivery and archiving. Select exposure factors based on patient size, condition, and pathology to achieve optimal image quality while minimizing radiation exposure. Minimize radiation exposure to self, patients, and staff by employing shielding, collimation, inverse square law, and reducing repeat exposures. Maintain expertise in anatomy, physiology, and pathology related to imaging to optimize procedures and ensure patient care/safety. Assess patient needs and provide related imaging care, including comfort, hygiene, and range of motion support. Prepare contrast agents, pharmaceuticals, and sterile trays according to procedural guidelines and protocols. Educate patients regarding radiographic procedures by explaining the process and answering questions. Promote a team approach to Radiology services by interacting positively with technical, support, nursing, and medical staff. Engage in problem solving, crisis management, system implementation, and performance improvements across the hospital to promote efficient, high‑quality, cost‑effective patient care. Demonstrate imaging techniques, patient care, and guest relations in accordance with the ARRT Code of Ethics, WVUH Administrative Policies and Procedures, Radiology Department Policies, State and Federal Regulation, and Joint Commission guidelines. Report equipment failures immediately upon identification. Complete all required in‑services and competencies by the specified dates and apply acquired knowledge. Position patients accurately following established protocols. Participate in coordination of daily workflow. Provide minimal instruction of radiology students in the clinical setting regarding patient positioning, technique selection, equipment manipulation, and accessory device use. Ensure all vital components of the imaging process are completed in their entirety. Physical Requirements Differentiate various shades of gray and color as displayed on a monitor or photograph. Stand and walk for prolonged periods. Lift, push, and pull up to 50 pounds of weight. Carry items up to 20 pounds. Working Environment Minimal radiation exposure within national occupational guidelines, monitored by Radiation Safety and dosimeter use. Exposure to airborne particles and bodily fluids. Operation of imaging equipment with automated moving parts. Skills and Abilities Positive interaction with patients, families, and healthcare team members. Ability to prioritize and handle multiple situations simultaneously. Ability to improvise altered positioning techniques, equipment manipulation, and accessory use when routine positioning is compromised by patient condition, age, or ability.
