Chiller TechnicianMechanical Service, Field OperationsHaltom City, TX • Full-Time/RegularPosition SummaryThe Journeyman Chiller Technician is responsible for installing, maintaining, troubleshooting, and repairing commercial and industrial chiller systems and large-scale HVAC equipment. This role ensures multi-zone heating and cooling systems operate efficiently, reliably, and in accordance with safety and quality standards. The Journeyman Chiller Technician works independently and collaboratively to diagnose issues, perform preventative maintenance, and deliver cost-effective solutions that support customer comfort and system performance.Position DetailsInstall, remove, maintain and repair HVAC systems and related equipment.Study customer's scope of service. Follow the preventative maintenance schedule and perform routine system maintenance, including cleaning and replacing parts, testing for leaks, adjusting controls and making minor repairs where needed.Troubleshoot for electrical problems. Make repairs as required.Document and track preventive maintenance accordingly and in compliance with EPA regulations.Maintain efficient environmental conditions. Adjust system controls to recommended settings. Test system performance using special tools and test equipment.Conserve, recover and recycle CFC and HCFC refrigerants used in A/C and refrigeration systems in compliance with EPA regulations.Test systems for gas leaks, carbon monoxide issues, and fluid leaks.Install and repair fuel and water supply lines.Evaluate customer needs and make recommendations for correction and/or improvement.Respond directly to customer questions, explain services provided, and provide Dispatch with detailed summary of related costs for billing purposes.Complete all required paperwork in a timely and professional manner.Assist Service Sales with customer scope development, technical analysis/support for retrofits, upgrades and/or enhancements to existing equipment.Mentor/train assisting apprentices.Perform all work within the confines of Southland's safety rules and regulations.Perform additional assignments as requested/needed.QualificationsAbility to read blueprints, layout plans and wiring diagramsProficient at inspecting, troubleshooting and making repairs on: air-cooled chillers (recip, screw, or scroll) less than 100 tons, large, water-cooled chiller experience, experience with Aaon units SOB available, RTU, package units, water-source heat pumps, and split systems (any size), AHU's, cooling towers, vane axial fans, pumps, air compressors, air dryers, VAV boxes, VFD'sAbility to effectively manage time and complete delegated work within specified timeframeAbility to read and interpret EPA regulationsAbility to communicate effectively with a wide variety of peopleAbility to work within precise standards of accuracyAbility and willingness to follow oral and written directionsAbility to successfully pass pre-employment drug-screen and physical testsMust be available to be on stand-by or work during evenings, weekends, and holidays.Employment is contingent upon satisfying all jobsite-specific access requirements, with no outstanding restrictions from any jobsite or from working with any of Southland's partnering General Contractors, Owners, Customers, etc.High school degree (or GED) and successful completion of sheet metal apprenticeship program or related trade schoolOSHA-10 certification (if not currently certified, must be obtained within six (6) months from date of hire)Current Universal Refrigerant Recovery CertificateValid Texas Driver License and clean driving recordBenefitsAs a 100% employee-owned company, we are committed to supporting the well-being of our employees and their families.For positions covered by a collective bargaining agreement (CBA), wages and benefits—including health and welfare, retirement, paid time off, and other provisions—are determined in accordance with the applicable local union agreement.In addition to union-provided benefits, employees may have access to company-sponsored programs such as:Training and professional development opportunitiesCompany-supported career advancement and apprenticeship pathwaysWellness resources and employee support programsPlease note that specific benefits and eligibility may vary based on union affiliation, location, and the terms of the applicable CBA.About Southland IndustriesAs one of the nation's largest MEP companies, Southland Industries is built on the foundation of great people.
