Description: The Pharmacy Technician is responsible for assisting the pharmacist in the maintenance of the pharmacy drug distribution system. Focus is on quality, accuracy, patient care, and customer service. Responsibilities include packaging and delivering medications, assisting in inventory control, and stocking supplies. Technicians verify stock to maintain inventory records. Under supervision of a pharmacist, prepare medication orders for final check. Fill and deliver medication carts accurately and timely. Manage inventory in automated dispensing systems. Ensure medications are delivered to patient care areas promptly. Perform monthly inspections for quality assurance and communicate immediate problems. Interact with staff members and complete additional duties as assigned. Print/reprint fill lists, catch-up reports, and labels as necessary. Maintain returned medications and identify issues left in carts. Organize medication inventory according to safety initiatives. Evaluate medication use trends to maintain appropriate inventory levels. Remove expired or damaged products in a timely manner. Resolve discrepancies and technical issues when appropriate. Return and put away unused medications from units. Dispose of pharmaceutical waste in appropriate containers. Maintain organization and inventory in the pharmacy storeroom. Utilize order books to maintain inventory levels and check deliveries against invoices. Perform bar code checks on all items prior to stocking. Assist with ordering as assigned. Check nursing units for expired or returned medications. Monitor temperature logs for refrigerators and warmers containing medication. Determine the number of doses to be sent and accurately prepare IV medications. Follow regulations regarding safety and cleaning in the IV room. Repackage unit dose medications. Participate in continuing education to maintain knowledge and skills related to the role.
