Quality Assurance Inspector / Test Engineer Now sourcing Location:Washington, DC metro area -- on-site at WMATA facilities Employment Type:Full-Time Compensation:Commensurate with experience Position Overview: Unified Industries Incorporated is hiring a Quality Assurance Inspector / Test Engineer to support an independent quality assurance oversight program for WMATA's bus rehabilitation process. This is an active opening, and we want to hear from qualified candidates. In this role, you'll conduct objective inspections, audits, and testing of transit buses before, during, and after rehabilitation to verify compliance with technical specifications, OEM standards, and applicable quality and safety requirements. This is strictly an oversight, documentation, and reporting role -- you will not perform, direct, or assist with rehabilitation or repair work. Key Responsibilities Conduct independent inspections and audits of buses undergoing rehabilitation, working on-site at the Authority's and/or manufacturer's facilities Serve as a qualified test observer during all phases of fabrication and during qualification/acceptance testing of rolling stock or equipment Document findings in a clear, objective, and traceable manner, including detailed inspection records and photographic documentation Identify, classify, and track deficiencies and non-conformances through resolution and closure Perform baseline inspections prior to rehabilitation to document vehicle condition (structural/body, powertrain, brake and suspension, electrical, interior/ADA, and safety systems) Perform scheduled and random in-process inspections at key rehabilitation milestones; issue and track Non-Conformance Reports (NCRs) Evaluate buses after 6,000 miles of operation to validate rehabilitation quality, including review of Preventive Maintenance (PM) inspections and reliability trends Prepare and submit inspection reports, monthly summaries, and quarterly reporting inputs Use assigned electronic devices and approved digital documentation systems to perform inspection duties Recommend corrective actions or further investigation when deficiencies are identified Required Qualifications Professional experience in the operation and maintenance of rolling stock or equipment, with a background in production/assembly and facilities inspection Experience inspecting and testing rolling stock or equipment during all phases of fabrication and during qualification/acceptance testing Bachelor's Degree in a relevant engineering or technical field, or 5-7 years of applicable industry experience Familiarity with heavy-duty transit vehicle maintenance, rehabilitation, or manufacturing Working knowledge of relevant engineering disciplines (structural, powertrain, brake/suspension, electrical, HVAC) Strong oral and written communication skills, including report writing and maintenance of project files Ability to pass a background check as required for access to customer property or information Preferred Qualifications ASE certification or equivalent industry credential Prior experience on transit-agency bus rehabilitation or fleet audit programs (U.S.-based transit experience strongly preferred) Familiarity with digital documentation or fleet/asset management systems Job Type:Full-time Pay:$115,000.00 - $140,000.00 per year Benefits:401(k) Dental insurance Health insurance Paid time off Vision insurance Application Question(s):Are you able to travel to various WMATA yards?
