Entry Level Police Officer

Qualifications Must be a minimum of 21 years of age at time of hire and a United States citizen. Associate’s degree or equivalent 90-quarter credits, or 60-semester credits, required at the time of hire. (Transcripts may be requested and verified) Bachelor’s degree with coursework in criminal justice and public service experience is preferred. Applicant must have completed preliminary testing with and requested that their testing results be sent to the City of Port Angeles before they will be put on the Eligibility List. Other necessary skills: excellent communication skills and good physical fitness. Must pass a background investigation, polygraph, psychological examination, and pre‑employment physical examination prior to hire. Must have a good driving record and a valid Washington State driver’s license at the time of hire. Must have no felony criminal convictions or any other conviction that would disqualify a successful applicant. See special employment requirements. Must be willing to work any shift assigned, weekends and holidays in a 24‑hour, 7‑day a week operation. Must successfully complete the Washington State Criminal Justice Training Commission Basic Academy (or equivalency academy), a 14‑week Field Training program, and a 12‑month probationary period following completion of the State academy.
