Senior Scientist I/II, Analytical Development

AbbVie seeks a Senior Scientist I/II for analytical development of mRNA therapeutics and lipid nanoparticle formulations. The role involves leading method development, characterization strategies, and cross-functional collaboration to support pipeline programs and platform capabilities in San Diego.
Responsibilities
- Lead analytical method development and characterization for mRNA drug substance and lipid nanoparticle programs
- Develop and troubleshoot fit-for-purpose methods for RNA, lipids, and related impurities using various analytical techniques
- Design analytical strategies supporting product characterization, process understanding, comparability, and stability studies
- Establish efficient workflows for analytical testing and identify opportunities for streamlining or automation
- Mentor junior scientists, represent Analytical Development on cross-functional teams, and author technical documentation
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree with 10+ years experience OR Master's degree with 8+ years OR PhD (Sr. Scientist I); Bachelor's with 12+ years OR Master's with 10+ years OR PhD with 4+ years (Sr. Scientist II)
- Demonstrated experience developing analytical methods for RNA, oligonucleotides, lipids, or complex therapeutic modalities
- Strong analytical method development, troubleshooting, and fit-for-purpose method design capabilities
- Proven ability to independently define scientific approaches and solve complex technical problems
- Strong technical writing, documentation, and communication skills with multidisciplinary team experience
- Experience with chromatography, capillary electrophoresis, mass spectrometry, or related analytical techniques
