Duties

Help

• Responsible for measuring, ordering, fitting, and modifying all types of custom-made hearing devices for patients that may be complicated by several physical, mental, and or medical conditions.
• Performs basic audiologic testing, provides patient instruction, makes hearing aid ear mold impressions, and performs in-house hearing aid repairs. Performs routine hearing tests on patients of all ages.
• Uses computer and peripheral equipment to enter demographics and establish baseline and annual hearing thresholds in support of the Army Hearing Conservation Program.
• Assists audiology staff in the presentation of briefings by providing direct assistance to audiologist in giving briefings and performing otoscopic exams and Hearing Protection Device (HPD) fittings.
• Provides minor programming adjustments to programmable or digital hearing instruments using hearing aid programming software and proper connecting cables for appropriate manufacturers.

• Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
• Must be able to obtain and maintain certification by the Council on the Accreditation of Occupational Hearing Conservation, which includes a one-week training requirement.
• A Personnel Security Investigation is required.
• Employees assigned to a medical treatment facility are required to be screened for applicable immunizations or pre-existing immunity based on occupational risk, regardless of job series.
• Selectees will be required to sign a statement (Condition of Employment) consenting to seasonal influenza vaccinations or must provide a recognized exemption.
• This position is a Testing Designated Position subject to pre-employment screening and random drug testing. Selectees will be required to consent to participation in random drug urinalysis testing.
• A pre-placement medical examination is required.
• Immunization screening is required. Hepatitis B immunization is required for all positions with direct patient contact. Applicants may be required to show proof of other immunizations depending on the type of position.
• Must be able to obtain and maintain current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification through the American Red Cross. Within 30 days of employment. Advanced certification (e.g., ALS) does not supersede BLS.
• his position requires that you obtain and maintain a Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
• This position requires the completion of a pre-employment Physical Examination and an annual examination thereafter to ensure the continued, required level of physical health and ability or fitness to perform the duties of the position.
• You must undergo a specific initial background checks, investigation and periodic re-verification check of multiple agency records to obtain and maintain a suitable determination to occupy a position having regular contact with children.
• This position has been designated Mission Essential. In the event of severe weather conditions or other such emergency type situations, the incumbent is required to report to work or remain at work as scheduled to support mission operations.

In order to qualify, you must meet the educational and/or experienc requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application. Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes conducting hearing exams; assisting with hearing device fitting; AND utilizing an electronic health record system to access and update patient information and schedule appointments. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-05).

OR

Education: A half year (i.e., 9 semester hours) of graduate level education in a field directly related to the work of the position, such as Audiology Assistant, Hearing Instrument Specialist, or Audiology. (Note: You must attach a copy of your transcripts.).

OR

Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide the total number of completed graduate semester hours (or equivalent) by 9. Add the two percentages.

FOREIGN EDUCATION: If you are using education completed in foreign colleges or universities to meet the qualification requirements, you must show the education credentials have been evaluated by a private organization that specializes in interpretation of foreign education programs and such education has been deemed equivalent to that gained in an accredited U.S. education program; or full credit has been given for the courses at a U.S. accredited college or university.
