Senior Construction Defect Technical Claims Specialist Employment Type: Full-Time FLSA Status: Exempt Location: In-Office or Remote Summary We are looking for a highly capable Senior Construction Technical Claims Specialist Team Lead to join our team and work from any of the following Argo offices: Albany, Chicago, Los Angeles, New York City, Omaha, or Richmond (VA). Alternatively we can fill this role with a fully remote employee, except in the States of AK, DE, HI, KY, MI, MS, MT, ND, SD, or VT. This role will adjudicate our most complex construction defect claims for our customers and contribute to providing superb results for our clients. Candidates must be able to work during standard business hours. Essential Responsibilities Adjudicate construction defect claims at the highest authority limits on assignments reflecting the highest degree of technical complexity, with limited oversight. Conduct detailed information gathering, analysis and investigation to find solutions to numerous and undefined issues. Report to senior management and underwriters on claims trends and developments. Analyze claims forms, policies and endorsements, client instructions, and other records to determine policy coverage. Investigate claims promptly and thoroughly, including interviewing all involved parties. Manage claims in litigation. Manage diary and complete tasks to ensure cases move to the best financial outcome and timely resolution. Set claim reserves, considering how different policy wordings impact the claims reserving process. Identify loss drivers and claims trends to reduce claims frequency and severity through data analysis and improved claim management. Assign and coordinate expertise resources to assist in case resolution. Prepare reports for file documentation. Apply creative solutions to achieve the best financial outcome. Negotiate highly complex settlement packages within scope of authority to settle claims cost‑efficiently. Process mail and prioritize workload. Handle telephone calls and written correspondence to/from various parties (insured, claimant, etc.). Demonstrate appreciation and passion for strong claim management. Qualifications / Experience Required Deep knowledge of construction defect claims, with exceptional customer‑service focus, typically achieved through a minimum of: Seven years of experience adjudicating construction defect claims with exposure of $100,000 or more. Bachelor’s degree from an accredited university required. Two or more insurance designations or four additional years of related experience adjudicating commercial general liability bodily injury claims beyond the minimum experience may be substituted in lieu of a degree. Licenses in multiple jurisdictions. Applicants must possess a General Adjusting License in Florida, Texas, or Wyoming or be licensed in multiple other jurisdictions. Must have the ability within three months of hire to obtain other required licenses. Good business acumen. Ability to exercise discretion and independent judgment with respect to matters of significance. Strong focus on execution and proven ability to produce and deliver expected results. Excellent communication skills and ability to build lasting relationships. Strong claim negotiation skills. Knowledge of claims reserving techniques. Effective time‑management and prioritization skills. Proficiency in MS Office Suite and other business‑related software. Fluent reading and writing in English. Desire for continued professional development. Licensed Claims Examiner if required, or ability to obtain necessary license within 120 days. Benefits And Compensation Base salary ranges (for selected geographic areas) and eligibility for an annual bonus and generous benefits package. Colorado (outside Denver metro), Delaware, Illinois (outside Chicago metro), Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts (outside Boston metro), Minnesota, Nevada, Rhode Island, Vermont, and Virginia – $137,496 – $164,934 Boston metro area, California (outside Los Angeles & San Francisco metro), Connecticut, Chicago metro area, Denver metro area, New Jersey (outside New York City), New York State (outside NYC, including Albany), Washington, D.C. metro area, & Washington State – $151,062 – $181,254 Los Angeles, San Francisco, and New York City (including Westchester) – $165,036 – $198,084 Benefits include health, dental, vision, 401(k) with company match, paid time off, and professional development opportunities.
