Mail Sorter

SUMMARY
General working knowledge of United States Postal Services (US Government Client) directives governing the sortation, packaging, traying and bagging of First and Third Class mailings; and ability to maintain attention to detail while meeting quality assurance and job performance standards.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

• Sorts mail pieces by US Government Client order of precedence to prepare: 5 digit, 3 digit, states, mixed states and residual processed mailings.
• Prepares mail trays and mail bags in accordance with US Government Client quantity/weight specifications.
• Affixes mail labels to processed bags/trays, loads mail onto transporters and otherwise prepares mail for final acceptance.
• Operates postage scales/postage meters, conducts piece counts and completes required forms.
• Collates mail and conducts manual insert, sealing and labeling operations.
• Maintains required supplies and materials needed and has responsibility for keeping work area clean.
• Responsible for attaining job and quality assurance standards, and compliance with company personnel and safety policies.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

• High School diploma or GED preferred.
• No prior experience or training.

LANGUAGE SKILLS

• Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos. Ability to write simple correspondence.
• Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to other employees of the organization.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS

• Ability to add and subtract.

REASONING ABILITY

• Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions.
