Registered Nurse - Same Day Services

Astoria, OR – Same Day Services Staff Nurse (Part Time, primarily Day shift, 10‑hour shifts) Compensation ONA Wage Range: $52.87 to $75.95, depending on experience $1,500 sign‑on bonus for applicants with zero seniority at CMH who meet all other conditions (must sign offer by June 30, 2026 and begin work within three weeks) Eligible for CMH Employee Referral Bonus (Priority Recruitment) Responsibilities Direct the admission and discharge process of Same Day Services patients. Assess, plan, direct, evaluate, and perform care for patients, including pre‑admission testing (PAT). Coordinate all services necessary for the care of assigned patients, including calling surgeons, consulting physicians, or anesthesia when appropriate. Assemble and process all pre‑operative orders and test results; ensure complete documentation (history and physical, consent, orders, testing results). Provide pre‑ and post‑operative teaching to patients and families; arrange telephone or personal interview chart reviews with anesthesia as needed. Maintain the cleanliness and orderliness of the department as needed. Qualifications Knowledge of nursing principles and procedures, especially for surgical patients. Skills in good patient care (medical and surgical). Willingness to learn computer technology and adapt to a changing environment. Assessment skills for all age groups. Ability to handle multiple tasks, prioritize mentally, and maintain a professional, low‑key, pleasant and tactful affect during patient care. Must read, write, and speak English. Skills and Abilities Judgement to act knowledgeably and appropriately in various situations. Ability to handle multiple tasks and duties simultaneously. Ability to mentally prioritize tasks. Professional demeanor with patients and staff. License / Certification Registered Nurse (RN) licensed by the Oregon State Board of Nursing and Washington State Board of Nursing. Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from the American Heart Association required upon hire. ACLS and Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certification through the American Heart Association required or obtainable within six months of hire. Education and Experience Preferred: Two years acute care experience. Demonstrated ability to work independently with high‑level critical‑thinking skills. RNs graduating within the last 12 months, or RNs who have not practiced in an acute‑care facility within the last 24 months and have not completed a residency program, must complete the CMH‑provided Nurse Residency program. Physical Demands & Work Environment Work is performed inside the hospital. Requires walking and standing for the majority of the shift. Employees may experience occasional physical and emotional stress in a fast‑paced environment. Mechanical lifting of up to 50 lbs may be required, sometimes with assistance. Ability to mix, push, pull adult stretchers, beds, wheelchairs, crash carts, and equipment carts. Must use personal protective apparel. Adequate vision and hearing required.
