Carpenter – Abington Jefferson Job Overview: Perform a variety of carpentry duties in and around the hospital’s property and grounds, including construction, installation and repair of structures and fixtures made of wood, plywood and wallboard. Ensure all work complies with local building codes and Jefferson’s maintenance standards, returning the hospital to functioning and safe condition. Apply preventive maintenance, paint, add floors and steel wall structures, and resolve regulatory compliance deficiencies. Interact with coworkers, visitors and staff consistently with Jefferson values. Responsibilities Construct, install, finish and maintain structural components such as partitions, ceilings, floors, windows, doors, equipment, furniture, and building fixtures. Join materials using nails, screws, staples or adhesives on stilts, ladders and building beams. Prepare room or area layouts for renovation using blueprints, sketches or verbal instruction. Take measurements, calculate material quantities and shape lumber or fiberglass per specifications. Ensure carpentry work, in coordination with other trades, is completed as per written or verbal instruction. Identify and resolve regulatory compliance deficiencies and perform rounding to maintain safety and quality. Assist or perform other maintenance tasks as directed. Qualifications High School Diploma/GED or equivalent; additional education or training required. Preferred: Trade or vocational school graduate with courses in blueprint reading, mechanical drawing, mathematics, carpentry, and woodworking. Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Blueprint reading and mechanical drawing. Mathematics and measurement calculation. Construction techniques and safety practices. Health, Safety and Environmental policy knowledge and implementation. Premises operation and maintenance best practices. Facilities management principles for commercial and physical facilities.
