Over 10,000 homeless individuals are cared for by Boston Health Care for the Homeless Program each year. Boston Health Care for the Homeless Program is looking for a Maintenance Technician to join our Facilities team to help sustain day-to-day function of the program’s buildings and grounds.  Responsibilities include managing work orders, identifying and executing building repairs, and responding to general maintenance issues and emergencies in a timely manner. The ideal candidate for this role will be a team player who has a positive attitude, hands-on experience, and is able to work independently when needed. 

Responsibilities:

• Resolve daily work order requests
• Provide preventative and corrective maintenance throughout the properties
• Inspect building and/or grounds as necessary
• Replace light bulbs, electrical fixtures, plumbing fixtures, filters, ceiling tiles, door hardware, locks, and make keys
• Perform wall repair, flooring repair, and painting
• Wear necessary safety attire and/or use appropriate equipment
• Respond to on-call emergencies after hours, evenings and weekends, and mandatory snow removal
• Work with contractors as necessary
• Perform daily mechanical inspections
• Schedule annual fire drills
• Meet requests of remote BHCHP locations
• Oversee Routine Preventative Maintenance Schedule
• Performs other duties as required or assigned

Qualifications:

• High school diploma, GED equivalent, or relevant Technical School certification required
• Knowledge of OSHA and facilities maintenance in a healthcare setting preferred
• 5-10 years of experience in some or all the following areas: basic plumbing, basic electrical, general carpentry, tiling, locks, painting, grounds keeping, cleaning/janitorial.
• Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation preferred
• Basic computer skills
• Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed oral or written instructions independently
• Must be self-motivated and enjoy working with a diverse population
• Must be able to read, write, and communicate effectively in English
• Must wear appropriate uniform at all times

Compensation and Benefits:

• The compensation ranges from $22.25 -$35.60 per hour and increases based on years of experience.
