We are hiring now for an Internal Quality Auditor!
SMTC Corporation was founded in 1985. Summary: The Internal Auditor is responsible for conducting internal audits and supporting Quality Management System (QMS) activities to assess compliance with customer requirements, company procedures, regulatory standards, and applicable industry requirements. This role performs audits, documents findings, and supports activities related to document control, records management, corrective actions, training compliance, and audit readiness.
The Internal Auditor works closely with Quality and cross-functional teams to identify compliance gaps, support corrective action follow-up, and maintain readiness for customer, certification, and regulatory audits. This position contributes to the effectiveness of the internal audit program and provides audit-based information to support ongoing compliance and quality system improvement.
Essential Functions:
• Plan, schedule, conduct, and document internal process, system audits in accordance with established audit schedules and Quality Management System requirements.
• Document audit findings, nonconformances, observations, and opportunities for improvement and communicate results to applicable stakeholders.
• Administer document control processes including document routing, revision control, approval workflows, distribution, and obsolescence management.
• Maintain controlled procedures, work instructions, forms, specifications, and quality records in accordance with document control requirements.
• Manage quality system records retention activities to ensure compliance with customer, regulatory, and company requirements.
• Track corrective and preventive actions (CAPAs), monitor progress, and support verification of implementation and closure activities.
• Maintain audit schedules, reports, objective evidence, compliance records, and audit databases to support audit readiness.
• Support customer, certification, regulatory, and third-party audits through preparation of documentation, records, and objective evidence.
• Monitor compliance trends and communicate recurring issues, risks, and opportunities for improvement to Quality leadership.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to support quality system improvements, compliance initiatives, and corrective action activities.
• Participate in continuous improvement initiatives focused on audit effectiveness, document control processes, compliance performance, and quality system maturity.
Competencies:
• Internal Auditing: Ability to plan, conduct, document, and report internal process, product, and system audits in accordance with Quality Management System (QMS) requirements.
• Quality Management Systems (QMS): Knowledge of QMS requirements, industry standards, and regulatory compliance applicable to internal auditing.
• Document Control Management: Ability to administer document control processes, revision control, records management, and controlled documentation.
• Corrective Action Management: Ability to administer CAPA activities, monitor corrective actions, and support effective closure verification.
• Regulatory Compliance: Knowledge of applicable quality standards, customer requirements, and regulatory expectations.
• Audit Reporting: Ability to prepare audit reports, document findings, communicate nonconformances, and support audit readiness.
• Records Management: Ability to maintain quality records, audit documentation, retention requirements, and objective evidence.
• Problem Solving: Ability to identify compliance issues, evaluate risks, and recommend effective corrective actions.
• Organization: Ability to manage multiple audit schedules, documentation requirements, and competing priorities while maintaining accuracy.
• Continuous Improvement: Ability to identify opportunities that improve audit effectiveness, compliance performance, and Quality Management System maturity.
• Cross-Functional Collaboration: Ability to work effectively with Quality, Manufacturing, Engineering, Operations, Supply Chain, and Leadership teams.
• Technical Proficiency: Proficiency using quality management systems, document control software, Microsoft Office applications, and business systems.
Qualifications:
• Education:
o Associate degree in Quality, Manufacturing Technology, Engineering Technology, Business Administration, or related field required.
• Certifications:
o ISO9001 Internal Auditor Certification- Required
o ISO13485 Internal Auditor Certification
o ASQ Certified Quality Auditor (CQA)
o Lean Six Sigma Yellow Belt
Experience:
o Minimum of three (3) years of experience in quality, compliance, auditing, manufacturing, or related environments.
o Experience supporting quality management systems and internal audit programs.
o Experience working in electronics manufacturing, aerospace, defense, medical device, or other regulated industries preferred.
o Working knowledge of ISO9001, AS9100, ISO13485, and quality management principles.
o Strong written, verbal, analytical, and organizational skills.
Physical Requirements:
• Ability to sit for extended periods while performing computer-based work.
• Ability to use a computer, keyboard, mouse, telephone, and other office equipment for prolonged periods.
• Ability to communicate effectively in person, by telephone, and through electronic communication methods.
• Ability to occasionally stand, walk, bend, reach, and lift office materials up to 25 pounds.
• Ability to visually review documents, reports, spreadsheets, and computer displays with or without corrective lenses.
• Ability to move throughout office and production areas as business needs require.

• The role requires the ability to prioritize multiple responsibilities, manage competing deadlines, interpret and analyze information, and make decisions consistent with organizational objectives.

• The position requires sustained concentration, attention to detail, and the ability to work independently while maintaining productivity and accuracy.
Work Environment:
• Work is performed in a combination of professional office, electronics manufacturing, remote, and travel-based environments. Responsibilities may require regular interaction with production areas, exposing employees to moderate noise levels, fluctuating temperatures, production equipment, soldering operations, automated machinery, and general manufacturing activity. Duties may involve extended periods of sitting, standing, walking, bending, computer-based work, and occasional lifting or movement of materials consistent with job responsibilities. Employees entering production or controlled areas are required to follow all environmental, safety, ESD, quality, and equipment-handling procedures, including the use of SMTC-provided ESD-safe items where applicable. The role also requires travel between company locations, customer sites, or other business-related destinations as needed, as well as the ability to maintain a safe and secure remote workspace with reliable internet access when working remotely. Employees must remain attentive and compliant with all operational, safety, quality, confidentiality, and company policy requirements across all work environments.
Travel: 0-10% of the time based on business needs.
