Job Summary

Telemetry position requiring strong cardiac monitoring skills in an acute care setting. The role provides care for patients awaiting inpatient placement, primarily those requiring medical-surgical and telemetry services. Responsibilities include interpreting cardiac rhythms, managing titratable cardiac infusions, and supporting patient care needs in accordance with provider orders and established parameters.

Job Details

• Required Qualifications: Minimum of 2 years of recent telemetry experience within the past 6 months; Basic Life Support (BLS) certification; Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certification; National Institute of Health Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification through the American Heart Association (AHA) or APEX; ability to read and interpret cardiac rhythm strips; ability to manage and decrease cardiac infusions according to provider orders and established parameters.
• Schedule: Night shifts consisting of 12-hour shifts, with 36 hours scheduled per week. Weekend coverage includes 4 weekend shifts within a 4-week schedule, with rotation for 2 of 4 major holidays.
• Additional Information: The role primarily supports patients awaiting inpatient placement, including medical-surgical and telemetry patients. Common titratable or set-rate infusions include Cardizem, Heparin, and Amiodarone. Nurses may be asked to assist with emergency department patients through vital signs, intravenous starts, and medication administration but will not be assigned as the primary nurse for emergency department patients. Cardiac rhythm interpretation is performed by nurses, and no monitor technician is available. A dysrhythmia examination must be completed within 48 hours of offer acceptance, with a maximum of two attempts. A pass/fail simulation laboratory is required on the first day of orientation. Orientation includes two shifts to medical-surgical and telemetry services. Navy scrubs are required.
