Registered Nurse (RN) - MS/Tele

Job Overview

We are seeking a dedicated and skilled Registered Nurse to join our medical/surgical telemetry unit specializing in orthopedics and joints. The ideal candidate will provide high-quality care to patients recovering from orthopedic surgeries, including total joint replacements and spinal surgeries.

Required Skills and Qualifications

Minimum of 2 years of experience in medical/surgical orthopedics.
Traveler experience accepted for first-time travelers.
Demonstrated competencies in medical/surgical telemetry settings, including cardiac monitoring and emergency response skills.
Proficient in the interpretation and management of dysrhythmias, as well as utilizing rapid response and code teams.
IV therapy and phlebotomy skills, including peripheral line care and management.
Knowledge of respiratory skills such as nasal cannula and non-invasive airway management.
Understanding of isolation precautions and use of personal protective equipment (PPE).
Current BLS certification.

Preferred Skills and Experience

Experience with total joint replacements and spinal surgery procedures.

Job Details

Average daily census: 34 patients; total rooms/beds: 48.
Shift: 36 hours available.
Work schedule: 3 x 12 hour nights (6:45 PM - 7:15 AM).
No on-call requirement.
Float requirement based on unit census; travelers may be first to float if necessary.
Weekend requirement: 6 weekend shifts every 6 weeks.

Patient Population

The unit focuses on postoperative care for orthopedic surgeries, including total knee replacements, total hip replacements, spinal fusions, hip fractures, ortho trauma, and medical/surgical overflow patients.

Special Equipment and Systems

Frequent use of wound vacs and drains.
Unit systems include Pyxis and EPIC.
Communication process utilizes SBAR format.

Additional Information

Unit orientation will be provided as needed.
Navy blue scrubs are required; not provided by the unit.
All candidates must pass EKG testing prior to starting this specialty role.
