Position Summary Assist the medical provider with physical examinations, carry out nursing treatments, and perform other health care procedures according to provider orders. Essential Job Duties Provide a standard of excellence as it relates to customer service for patients and other customers. Maintain a timely flow of patients. Maintain patient privacy according to HIPAA requirements. Prepare patients for examination by the provider. Aid patients in walking, standing or sitting if needed. Prepare equipment and supplies to assist the medical provider in the treatment and testing of patients. Perform or assist with procedures including, but not limited to, EKGs, Holter monitors, stress tests, PFT, dABI, WWE, wound care, flu/strep/HCG testing, glucose checks/teaching, fit cards, una boots, ear lavage, Coaguchek, nebulizer, and phlebotomy. Take and record height, weight, temperature, respiration, blood pressure/pulse rate manual/LXI or Connex machine, and review medications. Prepare, organize, sterilize rooms, tools and equipment, and set up medical equipment. Sterilize instruments, properly dispose of contaminated materials, and keep patient examination rooms clean, neat and properly stocked. Update patients' care plans under the direction of the medical provider. Order, prepare, and inspect patients’ charts. Assist with scheduling of specialists, procedures and DI testing outside of HTMG. Document tests and examination results according to HealthTexas, HIPAA and compliance policies and procedures. Review patient testing and examination results with the medical provider; document instructions accordingly. Input and monitor EMR records of patients during the exam process. Administer medications, injections and immunizations as ordered by the provider, including inputting in EMR and scanning consents. Maintain inventory of medications and supplies needed by the clinic. Provide CPR if needed. Handle administrative tasks such as taking, receiving and relaying messages between providers, patients and pharmacy; fill out necessary documents for patient care and scan documents into the patient chart in ECW. Replenish maintenance medications allowed by HealthTexas Medical Group. Assist patients with filling out Advance Directives. Follow all HealthTexas Medical Group policies and procedures, including but not limited to HR, clinic, administrative, HIPAA and compliance. Utilize OSHA and HIPAA regulations and universal precautions to protect self and patients. Perform lab quality controls and update control logs. Follow PPE guidelines. Translate or interpret for patients, families or colleagues when bilingual. Perform other duties as assigned. Experience One year prior experience working as a Medical Assistant in a clinical environment or successful completion of an externship within a HealthTexas clinic. Education High school diploma or GED equivalent required. Successful completion of a recognized Medical Assistant Certification program preferred. CPR certification required. Phlebotomy and/or Venipuncture certificate may be required. Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Detail-oriented and enjoys serving patients, works well with other healthcare providers, motivated, positive and a self-starter. Skilled in the use of a computer, fax machine/copier. Knowledge of Microsoft Office, specifically Word and Excel. Demonstrates knowledge of basic medical terminology. Able to work in a multi-tasking environment and under stressful conditions where constructive criticism is encouraged. Works well with clinical staff and provides quality patient care, every patient, every time. Communicates respectfully with all others regardless of sexual, racial, ethnic or economic status. Demonstrates knowledge of EMR skills and able to prioritize tasks and organize workflow. Work Hours, Travel Requirements Clinic hours vary at each location; associates rotate 8‑hour shifts as assigned to meet business needs and/or patient needs. Requires travel to other sites as requested for training, to meet business needs or patients. Working Conditions & Physical Requirements Medical office/clinic environment; exposure to infectious diseases, bodily fluids, toxic substances, medicinal preparations, and other conditions common to a clinic environment. Regularly required to talk and hear. Specific vision abilities required include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus. Must be able to perform the essential functions of the position. Must be able to meet the attendance requirements of the position and adhere to the HealthTexas Medical Group attendance policy. Must be able to assist patients in the event of an emergency. Must not pose a direct threat to the health or safety of other individuals in the workplace. Requires manual dexterity, sitting and standing (no less than 2 hours at a time), stooping, reaching, kneeling, crouching, bending, walking, lifting up to 50 lbs. May assist in lifting patients.
