- Housekeeping## Housekeeping##### Overview**Job Summary**The custodian performs several specialized tasks in the cleaning and maintenance of the floors, carpet, walls, windows, sidewalks, lights and vents. The position is also responsible for moving furniture and equipment as requested. The custodian maintains the highest possible sanitary standards in the locker rooms and in other assigned areas. The custodian maintains safety conditions within the assigned shift. Maintain a positive working relationship with supervisor and co-workers.##### Specific Skills* **Cleaning and sanitation skills** – Ability to clean and disinfect floors, restrooms, locker rooms, fitness areas, offices, and common spaces.* **Attention to detail** – Maintains a clean, safe, and welcoming facility and notices areas needing attention.* **Knowledge of cleaning products and equipment** – Ability to safely use cleaning chemicals, vacuums, floor machines, mops, and other custodial equipment.* **Time management** – Able to prioritize cleaning tasks and complete assigned duties efficiently.* **Safety awareness** – Follows proper safety procedures, chemical-handling guidelines, and workplace policies.* **Physical ability** – Able to stand, walk, bend, lift, push, pull, and perform repetitive tasks for extended periods.* **Reliability and dependability** – Consistently arrives on time and completes assigned responsibilities.* **Communication skills** – Communicates effectively with supervisors, coworkers, members, and facility guests.* **Teamwork** – Works cooperatively with staff and other departments to maintain the facility.* **Problem-solving skills** – Recognizes maintenance or safety concerns and reports them appropriately.* **Customer service skills** – Friendly, courteous, and respectful when interacting with YMCA members, families, and guests.* **Ability to work independently** – Can follow schedules and complete duties with minimal supervision.* **Flexibility** – Willing to work evenings, weekends, holidays, or varying schedules as needed.##### Responsible ForESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:Common custodial job duties include:* Cleaning locker rooms, steam rooms, saunas, restrooms, fitness areas, offices, and common spaces* Sweeping, mopping, vacuuming, dusting, and sanitizing surfaces* Emptying trash and recycling bins* Restocking supplies such as soap, paper towels, and toilet paper* Maintaining cleanliness of gym equipment and wellness areas* Setting up and taking down rooms for programs or events* Performing minor maintenance tasks (changing light bulbs, basic repairs, reporting larger issues)* Monitoring building safety and reporting hazards* Following health and sanitation guidelines* Assisting with pool area cleanliness if the branch has aquatic facilities* Using cleaning equipment safely, including floor machines and chemicals* Helping ensure members feel welcomed and safe* Walk through pool area empty trash, sweep floor, take battery out of chair lift* Shovel snow on sidewalks as needed* Pick-up trash in parking lotWhen co-workers are absent duties will change.
