Job Description - Medical Assistant - Oncology (2602778) Medical Assistant - Oncology Position Summary The Medical Assistant assists in the delivery of patient care as defined by Stony Brook Southampton Hospital nursing philosophy. Under the guidance of the physician, nurse practitioner, physician Assistant, RN, or LPN, the Medical Assistant performs nursing functions in accordance with site-specific policies, procedures and establishes ethics of nursing care. Job Duties & Essential Functions Places patients in exam rooms, takes vital signs, makes notes in the medical chart of the patient, assists the physician, NP or PA as directed. Checks medical equipment daily, performs appropriate lab logs and maintains inventories. Administers EKGs, eye tests and other in-house testing at the physician request and direction. Required Experience and Qualifications High School Diploma or equivalent. Current BLS provider certification from the American Heart Association. Certification as a Medical Assistant/Graduate of a Medical Assistant Program. Preferred Experience and Qualifications Experience in outpatient, private physician practice or clinical setting. As part of employment at Southampton Hospital, there may be occasions when travel to other locations is needed to support operational needs. Stony Brook Medicine is a smoke free environment. Anticipated Pay Range The starting salary range (or hiring range) for this position has been established based on relevant experience.
