Medical AssistantReports To: Back Office SupervisorStatus: Full-Time, Non-ExemptPosition Summary: The Back Office Supervisor oversees the team of Medical Assistants, who are responsible for preparing patients to be examined, setting up exam rooms, performing in-house labs, and conducting frequent recalls for various tests among other duties. In addition, the position has supervisory and administrative responsibilities as an assistant to the Medical Clinic Manager. The IHC is a Patient Centered Health Home and all employees are an integral part of this model of care delivery.Position Summary: The Medical Assistant assists the physician(s) in preparing patients to be examined, and for setting up the examining rooms. The IHC is a Patient Centered Health Home and all employees are an integral part of this model of care delivery.Duties & Responsibilities:Sets up the examining rooms and prepares patients to be seen by the medical providerPerforms routine back office clinical tasks as follows:Vital signs, chief complaintsSimple Lab: HET, AU, UPT, EKG and others as neededKeeps instruments and examining rooms clean and orderlySterilizes instrumentsKnowledgeable about daily procedures as per available protocolsAssisting providers during scope exams or proceduresAssists in obtaining data or reports for keeping monthly statisticsAssists in other supportive services as necessary for the orderly flow of patients, such as, keeping charts orderly, assists in pulling and filing charts, as neededAttends regular staff meetingsAssists patients with filling out questionnairesIs knowledgeable about immunization schedules workflow protocols, safe administration techniques, storage and handling, correct IZ documentation, and collects appropriate data for entry into the computer for follow-up of immunizationsAssists with tracking and rescheduling of patients as per protocolIs knowledgeable about patient education handoutsComply with IHC's HIPAA, and Privacy's PoliciesParticipate as a proactive representative of the Patient Centered Health HomePerform duties utilizing the Team-Based ApproachPerforms other duties as assignedRequired Qualifications, Knowledge & Abilities:High school degree or equivalent required with a medical assistant certification or upon successful completion of an externship at IHCFluent in English/Spanish and computer skills a plusA minimum of two years experience working as a medical assistant in a health care settingAbility to lift and carry 20 lbs requiredAbility to stand and/or walk for extended periods of time requiredExcellent organizational and customer service skillsAbility to follow written and oral instructions and learn new procedures quicklyAbility to stay calm while working quickly and with a high degree of accuracyFlexibility, initiative, and reliabilityKnowledge of & ability to work with the American Indian community & other minority populationsAbility to maintain strict confidentialityAbility to function independently and as a team member within diverse environments as well as with a diverse staff compositionDemonstrated ability to perform multiple administrative functions simultaneously in an accurate, organized, & efficient manner. Ability to multitask & thrive in a fast-paced, constantly changing environmentAbility to carry out all responsibilities in an honest, ethical & professional manner and demonstrate good judgmentPhysical Requirements:Ability to sit, stand and walk for extensive periods of timeManual and finger dexterity and eye-hand coordination for nursing careAbility to lift up to 35 poundsAbility to stoop, squat, or bend frequentlyCorrected vision and hearing within normal range to observe and communicate with patients and professional staffWorking Conditions:Exposure to all patient elements, including communicable disease and blood borne pathogens. Will be working in a fast paced medical environment which can be stressful and constantly changing conditions. Normal working hours are from 8:00 am until 5:00 pm with one hour for lunch. However, working hours may vary depending upon need. Will need to be flexible in performing tasks with limited discretion in making judgment decisions.Preference is given to qualified American Indians/Alaskan Native in accordance with the American Indian Preference Act (Title 25, U.S. Code Section 472, 473 and 473a).
