School Nurse SubstituteLocation: Greenbrier School DistrictQualifications:High School Diploma or EquivalentBackground, child maltreatment, and fingerprint clearance (applicant responsible for costs)Must have a current nursing license in the state of ArkansasCurrent cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) and automated external defibrillator (AED) certificatesExperience in health-related position specifically working with school-age children preferredJob DescriptionThis position is responsible for carrying out duties of the School Nurse through implementing the district school health program and providing direct services to meet the needs of the students and staff under the direct clinical supervision of the school district's lead nurse (RN). The school nurse substitute is to work cooperatively in maintaining the school nurse program at the school level in an efficient and effective manner to meet the needs and program acceptability of students and staff in accordance with federal, state, and local regulations.Essential FunctionsCommits to working in a student-centered environment, evidencing enjoyment of working around childrenReports to work as scheduled on a regular and reliable basisUnderstand and implement state-required mandated reporting proceduresTakes all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities daily.Works as a team member within the school nurse programMaintains accurate, complete, and correct records as required by law, district policy, and administrative regulations.Responds to emergency situations for the purpose of resolving immediate safety concerns and /or directing appropriate personnel for resolution.Possess ability to understand and respond to the verbal expressions of others, often in a noisy environment with multiple speakers and background noise.Observe safety rules and report any accidents according to District policy.Must have the ability to work for the duration of the daily contracted time period, and to be physically present and at assigned work, with only infrequent unexcused absences during the contract year.Practice desirable health and work habits, maintain acceptable standards of work, conduct, and dress code.Maintain an attitude of helpfulness toward fellow employees, students, and staff.Perform any other duties/tasks consistent with the goals and objectives of the position as assigned.Nursing ServicesProvide direct care using school health protocols and individualized health plans (IHPs) established by the RN supervisor or medical advisor.Administer medication to students according to board policy and district procedures.Carry out mandatory screening programs, collect data, and complete required reports as directed.Collaborate with campus principal, school counselor, teachers, parents, food service, and other staff regarding the health needs of the general population and those students with identified health conditions as directed by the supervising RN.Communicate with parents regarding individual students as directed by the school nurse (RN).Participate in the Admission, Review, and Dismissal Committee (ARD) meeting of students with identifiable health needs if the RN is unable and collaborate with appropriate staff and RN regarding implementation of health-related Individual Education Plan (IEP) items.Distribute information to faculty or staff on health related topics as needed and as directed by the RN.Provide guidance to unlicensed assistive personnel or other school staff on health related tasks as directed by the RN.ClericalMaintain accurate and confidential student health records, including immunization records, medication administration records, and individual student treatment records.Compile, maintain, and file all reports, records, and other documents required, including accurate, confidential health records on all students.ComplianceComply with policies established by federal and state laws, Arkansas Department of Health rule, State Board of Education rule, and board policy in the health services area.
