Collective Bargaining Unit: SEIU Local 73 Salary: $36.84 – $44.38 per hour Organization: Health and Hospital Systems Location: CERMAK HEALTH SERVICES (DEPT OF CORRECTIONS), 2800 S. CALIFORNIA AVE. Shift: 3 PM – 11 PM Department: Patient Care Services – Division 11 Pay Range: $36.84 – $44.38 hourly This position is covered by the collective bargaining agreement between Cook County and the SEIU 73 Organizing Committee. Cook County will exhaust internal eligible applicants prior to considering external applicants. Typical Duties Evaluates patient condition and provides emergency treatment per protocol. Provides emergency care, including taking vital signs, immobilizing patients, administering medications orally and intravenously, performing EKG, endotracheal intubation, cardiac defibrillation, and venous catheter placement. Performs Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) under physician supervision. Documents accurately and timely. Indivisional, clinic, intake, and/or infirmary settings, acknowledges and follows nurse supervisory responsibilities and directions. Documents in Cerner EMR as directed. Verifies and discusses patient complaints with registered nurse or physician. Maintains confidentiality of patient information. Assists the nurse, physician, and/or physician assistant in further medical evaluation of the detainee/patient. Adheres to the attendance policy and utilizes appropriate channels for issues. Transports sick and injured detainees to required healthcare areas by wheelchair, stair chair, gurney, medicar, and ambulance. Inspects emergency equipment and supplies daily, ensuring cleanliness and operability. Understands and supports unit and department health service policies, reviewing new policies and procedures. Demonstrates accountability through maintenance of CPR and ACLS certifications. Attends mandatory training for fire, safety, infection control, and other offerings. Maintains a clean and safe environment for patients and staff. Provides shift reports. Attends twelve hours of in‑service annually and participates in continuing education. Participates in Continuous Quality Improvement (CQI). Complies with security policies of CCDC and DCSI. Presents professional appearance, attitude, dress, communication, and grooming. Serves as a preceptor as assigned. Performs other duties as assigned. Minimum Qualifications High school diploma or equivalent (official transcripts required at interview). 21 years of age at application filing (proof required at interview). Valid driver’s license (proof required at interview). Current CPR and ACLS certifications (proof required at interview). License as an Emergency Medical Technician–Paramedic (EMT‑P) in Illinois (proof required at interview). Two (2) years full‑time emergency medical technician experience providing emergency care. Competency in phlebotomy. Competency in Microsoft Excel. Experience in sterilization procedures. Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and Other Characteristics Knowledge of pharmacology, physical assessment, and basic medical terminology. Knowledge of medical abbreviations related to emergency procedures. Skill in performing EKG. Skill in basic physical assessment. Ability to perform Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS). Ability to maintain accurate records. Ability to understand instructions and communicate effectively with patients and staff. Physical and Environmental Demands This position functions within a healthcare environment. The incumbent is responsible for safety requirements, including PPE, hand washing, sanitizing practices, and compliance with department‑specific engineering and work practice controls.
