Safety Specialist/Permian Basin

SUMMARY

The Safety Specialist is responsible for supporting the implementation and oversight of the company’s Health, Safety, and Environmental (HSE) programs in accordance with internal policies and applicable regulatory requirements. This position operates under the guidance of the HSE Manual (Section 02 HSE Team) and works closely with field personnel, supervisors, and the Safety Manager to ensure safe work practices, regulatory compliance, and continuous improvement in safety performance. Key responsibilities include conducting audits, facilitating training, responding to incidents, supporting investigations, and promoting a proactive safety culture throughout assigned operational areas. The Safety Specialist serves as a key resource to field teams by providing guidance, building trusted relationships, and promoting behavior-based safety practices.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Operate under the guidelines outlined in Section 02 HSE Team of the HSE Manual. Monitor safety performance and assist in the implementation of HSE programs across assigned regions. Respond to the Safety Hotline and provide timely support for emergency and non‑emergency incidents, near misses, and good catches. Conduct and document incident investigations, determine root causes, and work with management to implement corrective actions and mitigation strategies. Facilitate regular yard audits to assess safety compliance, housekeeping, and adherence to established safety protocols. Perform field‑based safety tasks, including walking long distances, standing for extended periods, and occasionally lifting materials or equipment during inspections. Promote Behavior Based Safety (BBS) principles through observations and coaching. Deliver safety training sessions focused on regulatory compliance, company standards, and industry best practices. Develop trusted working relationships with field employees and supervisors to foster a proactive safety culture. Prepare clear and detailed reports, documentation, and communications related to safety performance and activities. Utilize computer‑based tools and digital safety platforms to track, validate, and report safety data and program effectiveness. Manage time effectively to meet reporting deadlines and balance field engagement with administrative responsibilities. Travel to field and yard locations is required, with the expectation to work in outdoor environments and wear appropriate PPE.

REQUIRED EDUCATION, QUALIFICATION, AND EXPERIENCE

High school diploma or GED required; Bachelor’s degree in Occupational Safety, Environmental Science, or a related field preferred. Minimum of 2 years of HSE or safety‑related experience in the oil and gas industry. Solid understanding of OSHA, DOT, and other relevant safety regulations. Experience with incident management procedures and root cause analysis. Proficient in Microsoft Office and digital safety tracking/reporting platforms. Strong written and verbal communication skills. Ability to build relationships and influence behavior at all levels of the organization. Willingness and ability to travel to field locations as needed. Must possess a valid driver’s license.
