Warehouse And Delivery Specialist

Diploma or General Education Degree or equivalent Required Experience Qualifications: 1 year of warehouse or delivery related experience Required Additional distribution experience Preferred Skills Qualifications: Thorough knowledge of distribution processes, including warehousing and delivery Strong oral and written communication skills Ability to safely and efficiently maneuver a straight truck, with cargo box up to 28 foot length, within areas of limited access, heavy pedestrian activity, and congested vehicle traffic Ability to load and unload case goods, furniture, and loose articles from delivery vehicles Ability to transport, store, and retrieve items within a warehouse using order pickers, reach trucks, hand trucks, pallet jacks, dollies, and fork-lifts Proficient computer skills with supply chain management, asset management, work order management, word processing, spreadsheet, database, and related software used within the distribution operations
Primary Responsibilities: Perform distribution and material handling activities in multi-site operational areas as necessary to receive, store, retrieve, pick, pack, assemble, palletize, and deliver textbooks, teaching materials, tests, furniture, supplies, equipment, and food among schools and other locations to support the district. Transport textbooks, teaching materials, tests, furniture, supplies, equipment, and food to and from schools and other locations including loading, unloading, assembly, and placement of items as required. Use appropriate material handling equipment and techniques to load and unload materials in a safe, efficient, and effective manner, following established work methods, and applying the principles of balancing and sequencing. Be cautious and alert to drive safely, especially when operating vehicles in the presence of students, school buses, and heavy parental traffic at local schools. Learn and comply with applicable regulatory and legal requirements, established safety rules and other standard practices of the department, division or system, such as the use of wheel chocks, dock locks, and seat belts. Assemble materials and properly place them according to customer needs and established GCPS standards as appropriate. Resolve problems from unexpected field conditions in accordance with established GCPS standards and communicate problems to supervisor for resolution, when required. Receive, store, retrieve, and dispose of textbooks, teaching materials, tests, furniture, supplies, equipment, and food to be transported to or from schools and other locations, filling customer orders, assembling, packing, and palletizing items as necessary. Unload inbound goods in a timely manner as assigned and complete the corresponding receiving functions within the supply chain management or asset management modules, the assessment database, the textbook management system, or other appropriate system. Store items in assigned locations, following put-away plans or other instructions. Pick correct items from storage in the proper quantities to fill customer orders as indicated by pick plans or other instructions, then pack, palletize, and stage in the proper location for accurate delivery. Use suitable material handling equipment, such as order pickers, reach trucks, hand trucks, pallet jacks, dollies, and fork-lifts to store and retrieve goods, following proper operating and safety practices. Assemble goods according to manufacturer guidelines as instructed. Follow established quality standards for order filling, assembly, packing, palletizing, and staging of goods. Complete inventory transactions for daily item put away, order filling, item moves, and other periodic inventory related functions, such as cycle counting or annual physical inventory. Alert supervisor to inventory discrepancies for correction and documentation. Dispose of damaged, obsolete, or otherwise unusable goods according to applicable policies, procedures, and other guidelines or instructions provided. Inspect incoming and outgoing shipments of goods to confirm that correct items and quantities are received or delivered in good condition. Examine incoming and outgoing shipments for evidence of physical damage and properly document when damage is found. Match goods physically received or shipped with associated documentation, such as bills of lading, purchase orders, and delivery manifests, identify discrepancies, make appropriate notifications to others, and take proper corrective action. Make decisions regarding the acceptability and handling of questionable goods according to predetermine standards and elevate subjective decisions to supervisor when predetermined standards are not available. Learn and apply new standards as they are developed. Create, complete, affix, and maintain electronic or manual distribution documentation as required, including receipts, delivery manifests, discrepancy reports, chain of custody records, asset tags, or labels and productivity logs. Enter data and correct errors in the supply chain management or asset management modules, the assessment database, the back track system, and the textbook management as required to document receipts, deliveries, order filling, chain of custody, and other vital information. Complete, process, copy, transmit, or otherwise handle packing lists, bills of lading, pick reports, property and supply requisitions, testing custody forms, package transfer tickets, discrepancy reports, shipping labels, and other documents on a daily or ongoing basis as required. Print, scan, and affix asset tags or bar code labels on textbook materials and property items in a timely manner when needed. Communicate with coworkers, customers and others in a courteous, professional, positive and appropriate manner. Listen attentively and carefully to the person(s) speaking to you. Speak to others politely and truthfully during all conversations. Speak in a normal tone and avoid raising your volume or shouting, unless necessary to overcome surrounding noise from machinery, equipment or other background noise. Do not speak loudly to drown out the other person's voice. Allow the other person to finish speaking before your respond. Avoid interrupting. Use active listening skills and repeat back to the person key information, to confirm that you have understood the person's meaning. Choose words with clear meaning to avoid unintended meaning or innuendo. Avoid using words that could be easily misunderstood as bigoted, racist, sexist, or impart sexual overtones or connotations. Do not use profanity. Avoid harsh or discouraging words that may instill a sense of threat or harassment. Avoid gossip, speaking disparagingly of others, or speaking poorly of GCPS as an employer in the general workplace. Discuss work related problems and concerns discretely with your immediate supervisor or appropriate others who have the responsibility or authority can provide or obtain information or take related actions to address your concerns. Operate GCPS vehicles safely in accordance with local, state and national laws, and complete associated tasks such as fueling, checking fluids, inspecting, securing, and cleaning. Obtain a Georgia Class B or higher Commercial Driver's within 6 months of hire and maintain thereafter, including required physicals and Federal Motor Carrier reporting. b, Perform daily pre-trip and post trip inspections when operating GCPS vehicles. Secure vehicles and cargo against potential theft, loss, or damage by closing and locking all doors while driving or leaving vehicle unattended. Avoid unnecessary distractions while driving, including eating, prolonged phone conversations, and reading paper or electronic documents. Use extreme caution when driving on and around school and support facilities campuses, being particularly mindful of students, other pedestrians, and vehicles in the area. Check non-roadway areas of campus grounds for potential hazards before driving on them to complete assigned duties. Take proper care of vehicles, cleaning regularly, reporting all accidents, repair and maintenance needs, and delivering vehicles for scheduled service when required. Obtain supervisory approval prior to making any modifications to vehicles, including temporary or permanent attachments. Train and supervise part-time/miscellaneous and temporary agency personnel as needed. Teach assigned personnel the proper actions to take, in the correct sequence, to complete designated tasks. Monitor assigned personnel performance to ensure instructions are followed correctly to achieve the desired results. Review actions and sequences as necessary to correct any deficiencies in actions previously taught. Advise supervisor of persistent difficulties in achieving the desired results in an effort to resolve any issues.
Physical Demands: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to stand; walk; use hands to touch, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; and talk or hear. The employee is occasionally required to sit; climb or balance; and stoop, kneel, or crouch. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 100 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus. The employee is required to operate a motor vehicle in performance of duties. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently exposed to moving mechanical parts and outside weather conditions. The employee is occasionally exposed to fumes or airborne particles and risk of electrical shock. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
