Trusts & Estate Attorney (LL.M. in Taxation)

Location: Tampa, FL

Salary: $110k-$150k/yr

Position Overview
We are seeking a Trusts & Estate Attorney with an LL.M. in Taxation to join our firms estate planning and trust administration practice. The ideal candidate will provide sophisticated tax-aware estate planning, draft and review trusts and related documents, manage estate and trust administrations, and advise high-net-worth clients and fiduciaries on tax and trust matters. This role requires strong technical tax expertise, practical experience in trust administration, and exceptional client communication skills.

Key Responsibilities

• Prepare and review estate planning documents including wills, revocable and irrevocable trusts, powers of attorney, and healthcare directives with a focus on tax optimization.
• Provide tax-focused estate planning advice leveraging LL.M. in Taxation expertise to minimize estate, gift, and generation-skipping transfer taxes.
• Advise executors, trustees, and beneficiaries on trust and estate administration matters, including asset transfers, accountings, and fiduciary duties.
• Oversee and coordinate probate and non-probate estate administrations, working with accountants, financial advisors, and other professionals to resolve tax and estate issues.
• Draft and review complex trust instruments, charitable planning documents, family limited partnerships, LLC agreements, and other wealth transfer structures.
• Prepare and review federal and state estate, gift, and fiduciary income tax returns; coordinate tax planning and filing strategies with tax professionals.
• Respond to client inquiries, conduct client meetings, and present clear, practical recommendations tailored to clients objectives and tax circumstances.
• Assist with contested probate and trust disputes when necessary, collaborating with litigation colleagues to develop strategy.
• Stay current on federal and state tax law changes, trust law developments, and best practices; provide internal training and mentorship to junior attorneys and staff.
• Build and maintain client relationships and contribute to business development efforts, including client seminars and professional networking.

Qualifications

• Juris Doctor (J.D.) from an accredited law school and LL.M. in Taxation (required).
• Admission to the state bar in FL (or eligible for admission) and in good standing.
• 3+ years of experience practicing trust and estate law with demonstrable experience in trust administration and estate planning; prior experience at a law firm or in private practice preferred.
• Strong technical knowledge of federal and state estate, gift, generation-skipping transfer, and fiduciary income tax rules.
• Proven drafting skills for wills, trusts, powers of attorney, charitable planning instruments, and related agreements.
• Experience preparing and reviewing estate, gift, and fiduciary tax returns and working with tax advisors and accountants.
• Excellent client counseling and communication skills, with the ability to translate complex tax issues into practical advice.
• Detail-oriented, organized, and able to manage multiple matters and deadlines independently.
• Ability to work collaboratively with cross-functional teams and mentor junior attorneys and paralegals.
• Comfortable engaging in business development activities, client presentations, and community outreach.
