About the Company

A growing construction organization is seeking a strategic, hands-on Director of Procurement to lead purchasing operations, vendor management, material planning, and supply chain execution across multiple large-scale projects.

About the Role

This leadership role is responsible for developing procurement strategy, managing commodity purchasing, supporting project execution, and ensuring materials are available when and where they are needed. The ideal candidate will bring a combination of strategic sourcing expertise, construction industry knowledge, and strong operational leadership.

Responsibilities

  • Lead procurement and purchasing activities for construction projects, including pipe, valves, fittings, specialties, and related commodities
  • Manage material procurement from project estimate through purchase, delivery, allocation, transfer, and replenishment
  • Support multiple concurrent projects by balancing schedules, fabrication requirements, vendor lead times, inventory levels, and supply chain constraints
  • Develop and implement procurement processes, material tracking systems, and inventory management procedures
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with suppliers, manufacturers, and distribution partners
  • Negotiate pricing agreements, vendor contracts, and purchasing programs
  • Monitor commodity markets, lead times, manufacturer capacity, and supply chain risks
  • Coordinate with project management, fabrication, warehouse, shipping, receiving, and accounting teams
  • Manage inventory visibility, material transfers, surplus tracking, and material returns
  • Develop reporting related to material availability, inventory accuracy, purchasing performance, and vendor effectiveness
  • Support estimating and preconstruction teams with pricing, market intelligence, procurement strategy, and lead-time forecasting

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Supply Chain Management, Construction Management, Engineering, Business, or a related field preferred
  • 5–10+ years of progressive procurement, purchasing, supply chain, or materials management experience
  • Experience supporting multiple projects simultaneously in a construction, industrial, manufacturing, or project-based environment
  • Strong understanding of procurement strategy, inventory management, vendor relationships, and material logistics
  • Demonstrated experience developing purchasing processes and supplier programs
  • Experience with ERP systems and advanced Microsoft Excel skills
  • Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving abilities
  • Excellent communication and leadership skills

  • Mechanical construction, MEP, industrial contracting, manufacturing, fabrication, or large-scale project environments
  • Commodity purchasing and strategic sourcing
  • Inventory control and warehouse operations
  • Vendor negotiations and contract management
