The Med-Surg Float Pool RN must demonstrate strong clinical judgment and adaptability to changing work environments, with flexibility in patient care assignments. Care is ongoing and covers various stages of recuperation, from diagnosis to treatment and health promotion, recovery, or end-of-life care. Goals are achieved through prompt detection of emergencies, prevention of complications, diagnostic and therapeutic procedures, patient and family education to improve self-care, health maintenance and rehabilitation, and facilitating discharge from acute care. The RN participates in continuous improvement initiatives, professional governance, and High Reliability Organization (HRO) models as part of personal and professional development. Major duties include but are not limited to:

• Flexibility in patient care assignment
• Care for boarding patients in temporary bed locations
• Interpretation of Continuous Telemetry monitored patients can be trained upon hire
• Diabetic management and teaching
• Management of gastric intestinal and/or percutaneous drainage and feeding tubes
• Administration & Monitoring Medications
• Skills in time management, priority setting, assessment, and urgent intervention are essential for this unit.
• Advanced Vascular Access Care and Maintenance
• Facilitation of Homecare referrals and rehabilitation recommendations to support ongoing veteran needs
• Collaborates with multiple disciplines including Social Work, Pharmacy Physical Therapy, and Occupational Therapy Laboratory

Work Schedule: Intermittent - This is an intermittent position. Intermittent employment is defined as non-fulltime employment in which employees are appointed without a regularly scheduled tour of duty. Work is sporadic and unpredictable so that a tour of duty may not be regularly scheduled in advance. Expected availability for this position is one, 12-hour shift per biweekly pay period. Additional hours may be scheduled as needed. Shifts may be scheduled Sunday-Saturday, including days, evenings, overnights, weekends, and holidays. Typical hours the incumbent may be expected to work are 0700-1930; 1900-0730; 1500-2330; 0700-1530; 1400-2030.
