Unit Description:

The Clinical Decision Unit is designed to hold patients whose medical conditions require specific clinically defined hospital-based services that include short term treatments, assessments and reassessments through periodic monitoring by staff who evaluate whether the patient can be discharged from the hospital or require inpatient status/admission. Patient expected length of stay is 8-48 hours, therefore the admission/transfer/discharge (ADT) activity of this unit is expected to be high and therefore fast paced. This clinical area features a pace similar to the Emergency Room with diagnostic work ups and care needs in a telemetry setting.

Duties/Responsibilities:

• Assess, plan, implement, evaluate, educate and document the nursing care of patients set forth by organizational policies and in accordance with the standards of professional nursing practice.
• Utilizes specialized knowledge, judgement, and nursing skills necessary to assess data and plan, as well as, provide and evaluate care appropriate to the patient to facilitate a safe discharge.
• Works collaboratively with other disciplines in care of patients.
• Participates in formal and informal educational programs to improve technical skills.
• Responsible for continued learning and application to practice.
• Responsible to provide patient and family education.

Registration/Certification:

• Current MA RN License
• AHA BLS certification required.

Education/Experience Required:

• 12 months of recent Acute Care RN experience preferred.
• Current telemetry experience preferred.
• Evidence of continuing education.
• Utilizes appropriate time management skills and communicates effectively.
• Documented Professional Development activities
• Knowledge of Critical Paths
• Charge Nurse experience preferred
• BSN preferred
• AHA ACLS certification preferred
