English Language Conversation Partner

Volunteers needed! Interested in helping an adult English learner build confidence and practice conversational English? Become a conversation partner with the Troy Public Library! No teaching experience is necessary. We are simply looking for volunteers who are kind, patient, compassionate, and eager to connect with others. Conversation partners meet with learners for approximately one hour each week at a time and location that works best for both participants. Meetings are informal, relationship-based, and focused on practicing everyday conversation skills. No lesson planning is required. Activities might include: Meeting for coffee or tea and talking about the week Taking a walk in a local park Discussing a shared book, TV show, or movie Visiting local attractions such as the Historical Village or Nature Center Practicing everyday conversations related to shopping, dining, work, family, or community life Volunteers must be at least 18 years old and able to commit to one hour per week.
