Respiratory Therapist

The Respiratory Therapist will work within the respiratory therapy department. The number of treatments per day varies by season, with no more than 30 per shift. Workload may fluctuate based on patient needs. Certifications required include BLS, ACLS, PALS, and either CRT or RRT. STABLE and NRP certifications are needed only for NICU roles or travelers handling infants. Patient types range from NICU to geriatrics. Experience in ICU, stepdown, MedSurg, and a small pediatric unit is necessary. The facility does not have a PICU but has a level III NICU. Ventilator management occurs occasionally. Responsibilities include working in both inpatient and emergency settings. Key skills include drawing and analyzing ABGs, administering breathing treatments, BiPAP, CPAP, and assisting with bedside bronchoscopies. Independent intubation is not required, but assistance with intubation may be needed, and the therapist could place an LMA. A supervisor or team lead will be present on each shift. Travelers may take on charge roles depending on experience and willingness. The therapist will never be the only RT in-house during a shift. Equipment utilized includes Drager vents, Cervo-NICU, Hamilton transport vent, vapotherm, and Philips models V60 and V30. Shifts are 12 hours, from 6 PM to 6:30 AM. Self-scheduling is available along with the option for block scheduling. Attendance at monthly department meetings is mandatory. Every other weekend availability is required, along with holiday work as needed. Call or standby call requirements are minimal. Floating between ICU, floors, NICU, and emergency settings is required. Any color scrubs are acceptable for work attire. The orientation period will last one week, tailored to experience level.
