MANAGER OF CODING

Manager of Coding Summary: The Manager of Coding provides leadership and operational oversight for the inpatient and outpatient coding, audit and education programs. This position is responsible for ensuring coding accuracy, regulatory compliance, and continuous improvement in coding quality across the organization. This role collaborates closely with Clinical Documentation Integrity (CDI), Compliance, Revenue Integrity, Patient Financial Services, physician-providers, and non-physician providers to support revenue cycle performance and regulatory compliance. The Manager serves as a subject matter expert in coding regulations and provides leadership in the development and implementation of coding education, audit programs, facilitating educational webinars and seminars, planning and delivering effective presentations, and process improvement initiatives. Key Responsibilities: Leadership and Management: Lead and manage the medical coding team, ensuring efficient and accurate coding practices. Provide ongoing education and training to staff coders and healthcare providers to maintain high coding standards. Develop and implement coding policies and procedures to ensure compliance with industry regulations and guidelines. Coding Quality and Compliance: Oversee the accuracy and integrity of coding processes, ensuring compliance with all relevant regulations and standards. Conduct regular audits and quality assurance reviews to identify areas for improvement and implement corrective actions as needed. Stay updated on the latest coding guidelines, industry trends, and regulatory changes, and communicate these updates to the coding team and providers. Collaborate with clinical and administrative teams to improve documentation practices and capture all relevant diagnoses and conditions. Education and Training: Design and deliver educational programs and training sessions for coders and healthcare providers to enhance their knowledge and skills in medical coding. Develop training materials, manuals, and resources to support continuous learning and professional development. Strategic Planning and Implementation: Contribute to the development and execution of strategic plans to enhance the efficiency and effectiveness of the medical coding department. Work closely with senior leadership to align coding practices with organizational goals and objectives. Qualifications: Professional certification in medical coding (e.g., CPC, CCS, or equivalent). 3-5 years of experience in medical coding, with a minimum of 2 years in a leadership role. In-depth knowledge of medical coding guidelines, including ICD-10, CPT, and HCC/Risk Adjustment. Proven experience in providing education and training to staff coders and healthcare providers. Strong leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills. Ability to work collaboratively with multidisciplinary teams and manage multiple priorities effectively. Detail-oriented with a strong commitment to accuracy and compliance. Preferred Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree in Health Information Management, Healthcare Administration, or a related field. Experience with electronic health records (EHR) and coding software systems. Advanced certifications in medical coding or healthcare management.
