Senior AV / Smart Home Integration Technician

Job Description

Job Description

We are seeking a highly experienced, self-sufficient Senior AV / Smart Home Integration Technician who can take ownership of complex installations and independently resolve technical challenges.

This is not an entry-level position. We need an experienced technician with strong troubleshooting abilities, sound technical judgment, and the confidence to work directly with manufacturers and technical support teams.

Key Responsibilities

• Independently install, configure, commission, and troubleshoot residential and commercial technology systems.
• Diagnose and resolve networking, audio/video, automation, surveillance, and control-system issues.
• Perform systematic troubleshooting before escalating problems to engineering.
• Communicate directly with manufacturer technical support to investigate and resolve issues.
• Read technical drawings, wiring diagrams, network documentation, and project scopes.
• Configure network devices, wireless systems, switches, and connected equipment.
• Lead field installations and maintain high workmanship standards.
• Document system configurations, service findings, and completed work.
• Communicate professionally with clients, project managers, and engineering personnel.
• Travel to Colorado for extended project assignments.

Required Qualifications

• Approximately five or more years of relevant AV, smart home, or low-voltage integration experience, or equivalent demonstrated expertise.
• Strong understanding of IP networking, switching, VLANs, wireless networking, and troubleshooting.
• Hands-on experience with integrated audio/video and control systems.
• Ability to diagnose technical problems independently using appropriate test equipment and diagnostic tools.
• Experience working directly with manufacturer technical support.
• Ability to work from technical drawings and project documentation.
• Strong communication, organization, and customer-service skills.
• Valid driver's license and ability to meet applicable company driving requirements.
• Willingness and ability to travel extensively between North Texas and Colorado.

Preferred Experience

Experience with one or more of the following is highly desirable:

• Control4, Crestron, Savant, or comparable automation platforms
• Lutron lighting and shading systems
• Araknis, Ruckus, Ubiquiti, or comparable networking platforms
• Distributed audio, home theater, and video distribution
• IP surveillance and access control
• Hospitality, luxury residential, and high-end custom integration projects
• Manufacturer certifications and industry training

What Makes Someone Successful in This Position?

The ideal candidate is a problem-solver who takes ownership of technical challenges rather than relying on constant engineering assistance.

You should be comfortable arriving at a job site, evaluating a problem, developing a troubleshooting plan, coordinating with manufacturer support, and working toward a resolution independently.

Engineering support is available when necessary, but the successful candidate will have the technical knowledge and initiative to manage routine installation and service challenges without continuous supervision.

Travel Expectations

This position is based in the Dallas–Fort Worth area and supports projects in both Texas and Colorado.

Significant travel to Colorado is required. Depending on project demand, assignments may involve spending approximately 50–80% of working time in Colorado, including extended stays.

Travel scheduling, transportation, lodging, and expense arrangements will be discussed during the interview process.
