Job Description The Department of Biostatistics seeks a Senior Program Manager for the National Studies on Air Pollution and Health (NSAPH) group. The role reports to Principal Research Scientist Dr. Danielle Braun and is a key partner to Principal Investigators focused on environmental and public health applications. Job Summary Senior Program Manager will oversee day‑to‑day operations, coordinate multi‑investigator projects, lead pre‑ and post‑award scientific and administrative activities, and ensure compliance with institutional and federal regulations. The position is a one‑year term with the possibility of extension. Job‑Specific Responsibilities Program & Project Management Coordinate operational aspects of the lab’s research portfolio, including multiple NIH and non‑NIH grants. Develop and maintain project timelines, milestones, and deliverables; monitor progress and identify risks. Plan and facilitate project, lab, and working‑group meetings with agenda setting and documentation. Support multi‑PI, multi‑site collaborations, coordinating subawards, data use agreements, and communication workflows. Develop and implement standard operating procedures for research processes, data management, and internal communication. Serve as primary liaison between the research group and school/university administrative offices. Regulatory Compliance & Research Integrity Ensure all research activities comply with federal, state, sponsor, and institutional policies. Oversee preparation, submission, and maintenance of IRB protocols and continuing reviews. Develop and deliver training on compliance requirements, GCP, and ethical research conduct. Monitor adherence to data use agreements and conduct internal audits to address compliance risks. Grants & Contracts Support (Administrative) Coordinate scientific and administrative preparation of NIH grant applications and progress reports. Assemble proposal components and track deadlines for new grants, progress reports, and renewals. Provide budget development support and monitor personnel effort distributions. Serve as programmatic liaison with Grants Manager, Department Administration, HR, Office of Sponsored Programs, and compliance offices. Provide timely information on staffing, effort changes, and budget updates. Participate in regular check‑ins with Grants Manager and administrators to review portfolio status. Operations, Data Governance & Compliance Oversee administrative operations including onboarding/offboarding. Ensure compliance with NIH and institutional policies for human subjects, data‑use agreements, and privacy. Maintain organized records of protocols, approvals, and disclosures. Assist with audit preparation and coordination of logistics with Grants Manager. Personnel & Training Support Support recruitment, hiring, and appointment processing for research staff and trainees. Define roles, expectations, and workflows for project teams. Coordinate training in lab procedures and compliance, and support mentoring activities. Contribute to a collaborative and inclusive culture supporting diverse trainees and staff. Communication, Dissemination & Outreach Serve as central point of contact between the lab and institutional offices, collaborators, community partners, and sponsors. Coordinate dissemination activities, including lab and project websites and public‑facing summaries. Support preparation of manuscripts, methods papers, software documentation, and presentations. Help organize talks or workshops as needed. Represent the research group on relevant school or university committees. Qualifications Basic Qualifications Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience. 5+ years of relevant experience. Additional Qualifications and Skills Advanced degree (e.g., MPH, MS, MPA, MBA) strongly preferred. 3–5+ years of progressive experience in research administration, program management, or related role. Demonstrated experience supporting NIH‑funded projects and familiarity with electronic systems. Understanding of pre‑ and post‑award processes and ability to coordinate with Grants Management staff. Experience with quantitative or data‑intensive research in biostatistics, epidemiology, environmental, or population health. Familiarity with statistical software (R, Python, reproducible research tools). Excellent organizational, time‑management, written, and verbal communication skills. Strong collaboration skills and ability to work independently within multidisciplinary teams. Commitment to public health, scientific rigor, equity, and an inclusive research environment. Additional Information Appointment end date: one year from hire. Standard hours/schedule: 35 hours per week. Visa sponsorship: Harvard University is unable to provide visa sponsorship. Pre‑employment screening: identity, education. 90‑day orientation and review period. Work Format Details Some duties may be performed at a non‑Harvard location. Work schedule and location will be set by the department. Employees in hybrid positions must work in a Harvard registered state in compliance with the university’s policy on employment outside Massachusetts.
