Position Purpose The Cybersecurity Engineer administers and monitors security systems and related technologies that support the College's operations. The position implements and maintains cybersecurity measures, monitors for suspicious activity and potential threats, and responds to incidents to protect the confidentiality, integrity, and availability of College systems and data. The role supports servers, communication devices, systems, networks, endpoints, and identity services. It applies established security standards, provides technical input on security requirements, and contributes to continual improvement of cybersecurity controls, processes, and technologies. Cybersecurity Risk Detection & Response Identify, investigate, and address threats, vulnerabilities, and security events in a timely manner. Protection of Institutional Information Support the confidentiality, integrity, and availability of College information through access controls, monitoring, and incident response. Effective & Sustainable Cybersecurity Practices Improve technologies, automation, and workflows to strengthen security and operational consistency. Collaborative Technology Support Provide technical expertise and guidance to IT teams and College stakeholders. What You Will Do Operational Execution & Administration — 35% Administer, configure, maintain, and monitor cybersecurity systems, tools, platforms, and operational workflows. Design and integrate security technologies and controls that protect College systems and data. Maintain technical procedures, playbooks, configurations, and incident response documentation. Monitor security alerts and configurations, follow escalation processes, and address identified issues. Develop scripts, automation, integrations, and other solutions that improve security operations. Critical Thinking & Decision-Making — 25% Analyze alerts, vulnerabilities, events, system configurations, and threat information to identify risk and determine responses. Troubleshoot complex cybersecurity issues, identify root causes, and implement or recommend solutions. Evaluate tools and controls for vulnerabilities, gaps, performance concerns, and improvement opportunities. Assess technical options and recommend solutions that strengthen security and efficiency. Use sound judgment in remediation, escalation, and follow-up during security events. Planning, Coordination & Continuous Improvement — 15% Contribute to cybersecurity projects, technology enhancements, system integrations, and security improvements. Coordinate assigned activities, testing, implementation, and deployment with IT teams and vendors. Track deliverables and timelines and communicate issues that may affect completion. Implement approved improvements to workflows, automation, processes, and practices. Service & Relationship Management — 15% Build collaborative relationships with IT teams, institutional partners, vendors, and stakeholders. Explain security risks, recommendations, and operational updates to technical and nontechnical audiences. Provide guidance on cybersecurity tools, controls, processes, and practices. Support security awareness resources for faculty, staff, and students. Coordinate communication and resolution during security events and investigations. Additional Responsibilities — 10% Stay current on threats, technologies, tools, and emerging security practices. Participate in professional development, committees, and institutional technology initiatives. Maintain appropriate technical documentation and credentials, as applicable. Perform other duties assigned in support of institutional priorities. What You Need to Succeed Required Qualifications Associate degree in Computer Science, Information Security, Information Technology, Cybersecurity, or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and relevant experience. Demonstrated experience working in an enterprise information technology environment. Ability to troubleshoot technical issues, analyze problems, and identify effective solutions. Ability to respond effectively to cybersecurity incidents, system issues, and emergencies with poise and sound judgment. Ability to organize multiple priorities, tasks, and deadlines and adapt to evolving technology and threats. Strong written and verbal communication skills for technical and nontechnical audiences. Preferred Qualifications Experience managing enterprise Linux or Windows Server operating systems. Knowledge of intrusion detection and prevention, vulnerability scanners, firewalls, SIEM, wireless security, network segmentation, and identity and access management. PowerShell, Python, or similar scripting and automation experience in security or IT operations. Industry-recognized security certifications.
