Maintenance Technician

Field Service Technician

This role focuses on performing maintenance, repairs, and inspections on related equipment at customer facilities in heavy industrial environments. You will diagnose mechanical and electrical issues, complete preventive maintenance, support major installations and upgrades, and ensure all work complies with applicable safety and regulatory guidelines. The position requires regular travel to customer sites, collaboration with other technicians and engineers, and accurate documentation of all services performed.

Responsibilities

  • Diagnose mechanical and electrical problems with equipment in heavy industrial manufacturing facilities.
  • Work as part of a team with other technicians and project engineers to perform major installations, upgrades, and modifications.
  • Complete documented safety inspections of specific types of equipment in accordance with OSHA guidelines after receiving training.
  • Perform scheduled inspections and preventive maintenance in accordance with applicable guidelines and manufacturer recommendations.
  • Consult with customers regarding all noted deficiencies, explain findings clearly, and recommend appropriate corrective actions.
  • Complete all required paperwork accurately, including service reports, inspection forms, and maintenance records.
  • Document hours worked and services performed in a timely and accurate manner.
  • Prepare and obtain service acknowledgments from customers to confirm work completion.
  • Use computers and software tools to create, update, and submit reports and documentation.
  • Troubleshoot issues using electrical, mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic, and PLC-based systems.
  • Read and interpret blueprints, schematics, and technical documentation to support troubleshooting and repairs.
  • Perform welding and mechanical maintenance tasks as needed to support equipment repairs and modifications.
  • Use hand tools and other equipment safely to install, repair, and maintain overhead cranes and related systems.
  • Travel to various customer sites to perform field service work, sometimes on short notice.
  • Interface professionally with internal teams and external customers to coordinate work and resolve issues.
  • Work from heights and in elevated positions as required to access overhead crane systems.
  • Support continuous improvement efforts by providing feedback on equipment performance, recurring issues, and potential upgrades.

Essential Skills

  • At least 3 years of experience in an industrial environment or similar military experience.
  • Strong troubleshooting skills for mechanical, electrical, and control systems.
  • Hands-on experience with PLCs in an industrial or maintenance setting.
  • Proficiency in electrical maintenance and repair of industrial equipment.
  • Skills and experience in welding, electrical, and mechanical maintenance.
  • Ability to read and interpret schematics, blueprints, and technical drawings.
  • Experience performing preventive maintenance and installations on industrial equipment.
  • Ability to use hand tools and related equipment safely and effectively.
  • Computer literacy, including experience with Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook.
  • Valid driver's license and ability to travel to customer sites as required.
  • Ability to interface effectively with internal teams and external customers.
  • Willingness and eligibility to work various shifts as needed.
  • Ability to work at customer facilities in extreme indoor and outdoor elements.
  • Ability to work safely from heights and elevated platforms.
  • Field service experience in heavy industrial environments or comparable settings.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Experience as an ironworker, millwright, or facilities maintenance technician is preferred.
  • Heavy industrial manufacturing environments is beneficial.
  • Experience working with hydraulics and pneumatics in industrial equipment.
  • Experience performing installations, upgrades, and modifications on overhead cranes or similar systems.
  • Demonstrated team-oriented approach to problem solving.
  • Strong communication skills to explain technical issues and solutions to customers.
  • Experience with documented safety inspections and familiarity with OSHA guidelines.
  • Ability to adapt to a variety of industrial settings such as steel processing, mining, construction, food and beverage, ports, and power generation.

Job Type & Location: This is a Permanent position based out of Reading, PA.

Pay and Benefits: The pay range for this position is $27.00 - $32.00/hr. Eligibility requirements apply to some benefits and may depend on your job classification and length of employment.
