FITTER – STRUCTURAL STEEL FABRICATION

Location: Turlock, CA
Schedule: Monday–Friday, 1:00 PM–11:30 PM
Shift: 10-hour shift
Weekend Availability: Required
Pay: $23-$25hr DOE 

Balance Staffing is seeking an experienced and dependable Structural Steel Fitter to join our fabrication team in Turlock. The Fitter will be responsible for accurately reading fabrication drawings, measuring and laying out structural steel, assembling components, and preparing completed assemblies for final welding.

The ideal candidate has hands-on structural steel fabrication experience, strong blueprint-reading skills, excellent attention to detail, and the ability to work safely and efficiently in a fast-paced fabrication environment.

• Read and interpret blueprints, shop drawings, and fabrication drawings.
• Measure and lay out structural steel using tape measures, squares, levels, and other measuring tools.
• Fit and assemble beams, columns, plates, channels, angles, brackets, and other structural components.
• Use clamps, tack welds, come-alongs, grinders, and torches to position and prepare materials.
• Check dimensions, angles, alignment, fit-up, and tolerances to ensure assemblies meet specifications.
• Tack-weld components to hold them securely in the correct position.
• Prepare accurately fitted assemblies for welders to complete final welds.
• Identify and correct fit-up, alignment, measurement, or dimensional issues before welding.
• Safely operate hand and power tools used in structural steel fabrication.

• Previous experience as a Structural Steel Fitter, Steel Fitter, Fabricator,
• Ability to read and understand blueprints, shop drawings, and fabrication drawings.
• Strong knowledge of structural steel fit-up and fabrication.
• Ability to accurately measure, lay out, align, and position steel components.
• Experience using fabrication tools such as grinders, clamps, come-alongs, torches, and measuring tools.
• Basic tack-welding experience required.
• Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality.
• Ability to identify problems and make necessary adjustments during fit-up.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

• Ability to stand and walk for extended periods.
• Ability to lift, carry, push, and pull materials and equipment.
• Ability to bend, stoop, kneel, climb, and work in various positions.
• Ability to work around heavy steel, welding operations, machinery, heat, sparks, and industrial equipment.
