Position Type: Administration (Educator)/ Middle School Assistant Principal Date Posted: 7/21/2026 Location: Buckhannon-Upshur Middle School POSITION: Middle School Assistant Principal EMPLOYMENT TERM: 225 days SALARY: Assistant Principal's supplement added to teacher's salary scale according to years of experience and degree CERTIFICATION: Master's degree and principal certification in the appropriate grade level EVALUATION: Performance will be evaluated in accordance with WV Code §18A-2-12 and WVBE Policy 5310 Qualifications Hold a master's degree and principal certification in the appropriate grade level Have completed three (3) years of successful school-related, educational experience, preferably at the middle school level Provide educational work-related references validating satisfactory performance Duties and Responsibilities Assist the principal with the organization, administration, and operation of school programs Act as principal in the absence of the school principal Assist in developing curriculum and planning courses of study Assist in arranging the master teaching schedule and special assignments Assist in evaluating and counseling staff regarding performance Attend special events recognizing student achievement Attend school-sponsored activities and events as directed Supervise student traffic in corridors, buildings, grounds, and parking areas Assist in maintaining student discipline and handling special cases Assist with scheduling classes and extracurricular activities Supervise student attendance reporting and work with county attendance officials Assist in safety inspections and drills Aid parent, faculty, and student groups as requested Perform record-keeping functions as assigned Work with department heads and school staff as directed Coordinate transportation, custodial, cafeteria, and support services as directed Assist with data gathering, analysis, and synthesis to establish goals Organize and utilize resources to attain goals Provide purpose and direction in assigned areas Manage consensus and group behaviors Promote enhancement of the school organization Delegate authority and responsibility appropriately Use effective written and spoken communication skills Model leadership by initiating action and motivating others Demonstrate instructional leadership to improve instruction and student performance Demonstrate values related to student welfare and fairness to staff Listen effectively and consider diverse viewpoints Use appropriate problem solving and decision-making skills Analyze data effectively before reaching conclusions Use effective group process and facilitation skills Recognize diversity and respond appropriately to different groups Establish high work standards for self and others Provide feedback on performance and productivity Support development of human resources Plan effectively to meet goals using timelines and resources Provide leadership in the implementation of technology standards Perform other duties as assigned by the principal Performance Standards Supports effective school operations and instructional leadership Uses data to support school improvement efforts Communicates effectively with staff, students, and families Maintains a safe and orderly learning environment Demonstrates professionalism and continuous growth Please apply online at under "Employment Opportunities".
