Journeyman Electrician

Job TitleWalker Engineering is currently hiring qualified journeyman electricians (J1-J3) in its Houston division.Walker is hiring qualified licensed journeyman. Journeyman are eligible for a $1,000 signing bonus. Candidates must hold an active TDLR standard journeyman or master's license to qualify for the signing bonus.A journeyman works under the guidance of a foreman or superintendent in installations, alterations, additions, and/or repair of electrical systems, conductors, and associated materials and equipment on any type project.Primary Duties and Responsibilities:A journeyman may be required to perform any of the duties and responsibilities associated with classifications E4 or A4. In addition, a first level journeyman:Lays out work and preps materials for installation.Performs underground layout and rough-in.Determines wire and conduit sizing.Measures, cuts, bends, threads, assembles and installs electrical conduit using measuring devices, hand tools, threaders and hand or mechanical benders.Installs BUSS feeders.Performs switchgear installation and terminations.Installs and connects power supply wiring, cables, conduit, and electrical apparatus in new and existing facilities following diagrams, schematics, or blueprints.Troubleshoots and resolves problems in electrical circuits, systems, and equipment.Operates any hand tools and equipment necessary to perform all associated tasks.Performs other project related duties and assignments as instructed by supervisor.Meets attendance standards and complies with late/absence notification procedures.Position Requirements:Requires basic mechanical aptitude, mathematical and English language skills. Must understand basic electrical theory and its application to installations. Must be able to work occasional overtime as required.Licenses: Journeyman's License, current driver's license and must have own reliable transportation.Education: High school graduate, GED or equivalent.Experience: Must have completed a qualified apprenticeship program and have over 8000 hours of on the job work experience.Work Environment: This job operates in a client project environment with exposure to employee, subcontractors and trades.Physical Demands:While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear. The employee frequently is required to stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle or feel; and reach with hands and arms.Ability to freely access all points of a construction site in wide-ranging climates and environmentAbility to comprehend forms in space and understand relationships of plane and solid objects. May be used in such tasks as blue print reading and in solving geometry problems. Frequently described as the ability to "visualize" objects of two and three dimensions, or to think visually of geometric forms.Ability to manipulate materials and/or equipment up to 50 lbs. The frequency of manipulation if frequently.Ability to move up or mount by using the hands or feet to include:Ladders - Step stool, 8' to 10' ladder, extension ladderStairways - 3 or more flightsTo bend forward or down from the middle of the waist or the middle of the back, to bend, downwards, to lower oneself and/or to move freely on hands and knees between 20-50 times dailyTo stretch out, extend, or put forth a bodily part. To touch or grasp something, by extending or stretching.
