Herbicide Technician

Overview Herbicide Technician – Creech Air Force Base, Nevada Purpose and Scope: The Herbicide Technician mixes and fills sprayer tanks to apply herbicides by spraying chemicals on trees, shrubs, lawns, botanical crops and heavily weeded areas. The role requires specialization in herbicide application and holding a current Nevada Department of Agriculture Certification as required by State and Federal statutes. Responsibilities Maintain spray equipment such as tractors, spray Gators, hand spraying equipment, hoses, tubes and nozzles. Proportion chemicals and water according to manufacturer recommended formulas. Monitor daily weather conditions to minimize contamination of personnel, water sheds or aquifers. Conduct manual hand removal of weeds in hard‑to‑reach areas and provide inventory control of chemicals. Document herbicide usage weekly and monthly for management. Maintain herbicide storage facility in accordance with EPA governing directives. Operate industrial‑size farm tractors to apply herbicide over vast land areas, including airdromes. Use hand and power tools for general maintenance duties and operate office equipment as required. Perform additional general maintenance duties as assigned. Qualifications High School diploma or GED. Minimum 2 years’ experience as a herbicide technician. Knowledge of basic biology, arithmetic, geometry and algebra for herbicide application. Ability to obtain and maintain necessary state or federal training, licenses and certifications. Ability to train others in small herbicide application methods. Strong verbal and nonverbal communication skills. Proficiency with Microsoft Word and Excel. Compliance with written and verbal instructions to meet established standards. Forklift operator license may be required. Clearance for a Secret Security Clearance. Valid state‑issued driver’s license. Union collective bargaining agreement represented by the position. Work Environment & Physical Demands Work is conducted both indoors and outdoors in varying weather conditions, including extreme cold and heat. Tasks involve lifting, stooping, crawling, bending, carrying, and heavy lifting up to 50 pounds daily. The position requires routine travel to contract locations.
