Ophthalmic TechnicianResponsible for performing eye-related clinical tasks that provide information for the doctors to accurately evaluate, diagnose, and treat patients.Working Hours: Monday through Friday. 8:00 am – 5 pm Monday – Friday and periodically from 8:00 am – 12:00 pm on Saturdays.Minimum Qualifications:High school diploma or equivalentOne or more years experience in a medical practiceAbility to work at any office as assignedPreferred Qualifications:Familiarity with medical terminologyCertified as an Ophthalmic AssistantRequired Competencies:Interpersonal Skills: Builds strong relationships, is flexible/adaptable, works well with others, solicits feedbackDependability: Meets deadlines, works independently, accountable, maintains focus, punctual, good attendance recordComputer Skills: Skilled with computers, takes advantage of new technology, learns new tools quickly, uses technology to enhance job performanceJob Knowledge: Understands facets of job, aware of duties and responsibilities, keeps job knowledge currentQuality: Strives to eliminate errors, accurate work is a priority, seeks opportunities to improve product/servicesPrimary Responsibilities:Skilled at utilizing all assigned clinical equipmentUses EMR to interview and intake an accurate summary of the chief complaint, history of present illness, past history (ocular and general), family history (ocular and general), and history of allergies and medications.Performs preliminary evaluations that include visual acuity, evaluation of motility, pupil assessment, angle assessment, confrontational visual field, applanation tonometry, manual refraction, dilation of pupilsPerforms manual lensometry to determine prescription in existing glassesPerforms stereo testing and color plates for all new patientsPerforms contact lens evaluation with keratometryPerforms special testing using the visual fields machine, OCT machine, external and internal camera, topographer, biometer, and pachymeterAccurately enters all necessary data into the EMRMaintains sanitary conditions in exam roomsParticipates in opening and closing duties as assignedParticipates in semi-annual competency checksPerforms duties of a clinical assistant/scribe as assignedEquipment Operated: Various ophthalmic testing equipment. Standard office equipment including computers, fax machines, copiers, printers, telephones, etc. Work Environment: Frequent mobility and/or sitting required for extended periods of time. Manual dexterity for using a computer keyboard. Some bending and stooping required. Mental/Physical Requirements: Work is performed in a busy office environment and requires both desk and counter work.
