Location 520 Denison Ave., Muskogee, OK 74401 - United States Application Deadline Monday, August 31, 2026 About the Office The United States Attorney's Office for the Eastern District of Oklahoma (USAOKE) serves as the chief federal law enforcement office in the Eastern District of Oklahoma and is accountable to the citizens of the Eastern District for pursuing justice, ensuring public safety, enforcing the law, protecting the interests of the United States, and exercising stewardship of the government's resources. The Eastern District is comprised of 26 counties in eastern and southern Oklahoma, ranging from southeast of Tulsa, Oklahoma to the Texas border and from the Arkansas border to Carter County on the west. The headquarters of the Five Civilized Tribes (Cherokee, Chickasaw, Choctaw, Muscogee (Creek) and Seminole) are located in the District. The entire Eastern District of Oklahoma is Indian country and the USAOKE has jurisdiction to prosecute major crimes committed by or against members of a federally recognized Indian tribe. As a result, the successful candidate will have the unique opportunity to serve in a vibrant, challenging, and evolving criminal prosecution division. Job Description Assistant United States Attorneys (AUSAs) in the Eastern District of Oklahoma direct the investigation and prosecution of a wide range of federal criminal matters, including organized crime, terrorism, international narcotics, child exploitation/child pornography, human trafficking, health care fraud, complex securities and fraud cases, and public corruption. The District also prosecutes violent crime cases in Indian Country, such as homicide, sexual assault, assault, firearms and controlled substance offenses, and white collar offenses. Prior federal criminal prosecution experience is preferred. AUSAs are responsible for legal research and writing, directing investigations, case development, and case presentation in criminal cases. To be an effective federal prosecutor, an AUSA must possess excellent communication and organizational skills and the ability to work closely with federal, state, local, and tribal law enforcement agencies. Responsibilities increase in scope and complexity as training and experience progress. Qualifications Required Qualifications: J.D. Degree and active membership in a U.S. jurisdictional bar. At least 1 year of post-J.D. legal or other relevant experience. United States citizenship. Preferred Qualifications: Desire to work as an AUSA in the Eastern District of Oklahoma, with prior violent crime prosecution and jury trial experience. Excellent communication and organizational skills and ability to collaborate with federal, state, local, and tribal law enforcement agencies. Superior research, writing, and oral advocacy abilities, strong academic credentials, and good judgment. Intelligence and aptitude measured by professional experience, academic record, writing samples, and interview performance. Commitment to excellence, strong work ethic and drive, demonstrated through successful teamwork, leadership, overcoming obstacles, and personal, academic and professional achievements. Sound judgment and good character. Balance, both professionally and personally, in terms of interests and abilities. Compensation and Benefits Assistant United States Attorney's pay is administratively determined, in part, on the number of years of professional attorney experience. The basic pay range is $76,748 to $150,000 and includes 17.06% locality pay.
