Integration / API / Data Engineer

This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for an Integration / API / Data Engineer based in the United States.

This is a fully remote engineering role supporting a federal customer and mission-critical technology initiatives.
You will design and implement APIs, interfaces, data exchanges, and integration services that securely connect enterprise systems.
The role sits at the intersection of software engineering, data integration, security, automation, and compliance workflows.
You will help enable reliable data movement across development, security, workflow, assessment, and authorization processes.
The position offers the opportunity to build reusable services and modern integration patterns within a collaborative technical environment.
You will work closely with security and data/analytics engineers to deliver scalable, well-documented, and secure solutions.
This is a contingent position dependent upon contract award.

Accountabilities:

• Design, develop, test, document, and maintain RESTful APIs, services, interfaces, connectors, and integration components using approved technologies.
• Analyze source and target systems, data models, interface requirements, dependencies, and error-handling requirements.
• Implement secure data exchange, transformation, validation, orchestration, and event-driven integration patterns.
• Develop reusable integration services supporting evidence collection, assessment workflows, analytics, policy enforcement, and decision support.
• Collaborate with security engineers to implement authentication, authorization, secrets management, encryption, logging, and secure-coding controls.
• Partner with data and analytics engineers to establish schemas, data mappings, data-quality checks, lineage, and operational data requirements.
• Develop and maintain automated unit and integration tests to ensure reliable system and data integrations.
• Create and maintain technical documentation, including interface documentation, architecture decision records, runbooks, README content, and release notes.
• Troubleshoot complex cross-system integration and data-flow issues and drive issues through to resolution.
• Contribute to secure, reliable, and maintainable integration architectures that support federal mission requirements.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Data Engineering, Information Systems, Engineering, or a related field, combined with 8+ years of relevant experience.
• Demonstrated software engineering experience developing APIs, system interfaces, data integrations, or reusable services in enterprise environments.
• Strong understanding of structured data formats, API security, automated testing, source control, CI/CD, and technical documentation.
• Ability to troubleshoot complex integration challenges and data-flow issues spanning multiple systems.
• U.S. citizenship is required.
• Ability to obtain a 6c Public Trust clearance; an active Secret clearance is highly preferred.
• Experience with REST/JSON APIs and integration frameworks is preferred.
• Proficiency in Python, Java, JavaScript/TypeScript, or comparable programming languages is preferred.
• Experience with AWS integration and data services is preferred.
• Familiarity with event-driven or message-based architectures is preferred.
• Working knowledge of SQL and data modeling is preferred.
• Experience with GitLab CI/CD, API testing, and observability tools is a plus.
• Strong analytical, troubleshooting, communication, documentation, and cross-functional collaboration skills.
