Assistant IP Counsel

Job Overview Position: IP Counsel – Corporate, RTX Technology Research Center and RTX BBN Technologies TeamLocation: US-CT-EAST HARTFORD-RTRC J RTRC JRole Type: Onsite (Employees work primarily onsite)Salary Range: $157,200 – $298,800 USD (annual) This role reports to the Research Center’s General Counsel and involves leading intellectual property strategy, licensing, enforcement, and legal counsel for the Research Center, RTX BBN Technologies, and Corporate Technology & Global Engineering (T&GE). Responsibilities Serve as intellectual property thought leader and strategy owner for the Research Center and associated teams. Provide proactive, effective and timely guidance on IP matters to senior leadership, management, and engineering personnel. Develop and execute appropriate domestic and foreign IP protection strategies for technologies and R&D projects. Supervise outside counsel in the preparation and prosecution of patent applications (both domestic and foreign). Draft and negotiate agreements, including government contracts, development agreements, technical services agreements, software licenses, non‑disclosure agreements and other miscellaneous agreements. Advisory on acquisition agreements, supply agreements, sales and service contracts, and IP-related litigation and enforcement actions. Provide training on IP processes, procedures and enforcement to employees across the Research Center, RTX BBN Technologies and Corporate T&GE. Collaborate with engineering and program personnel to secure IP rights and defend the company against IP claims. Meet regularly with technical, legal, and management personnel; participate in meetings with outside companies; and advise on IP and related legal matters. Qualifications – Must Have Juris Doctorate (JD) and five years of relevant intellectual property experience, in‑house or at a law firm. Member in good standing of a U.S. state bar. Registered to practice before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office. Strong written and verbal communication skills. Ability to multi‑task, focus on the client, adapt to a time‑sensitive and dynamic environment. Willingness to travel 10‑15% on occasion. Qualifications – Prefer Previous work experience as an engineer or other technical field within aerospace or defense industries. IP litigation and transactional experience.
