The Hartford currently has an in-house remote opportunity for a Staff Attorney to litigate general liability, auto liability, subrogation and related tort cases. This position is an ideal fit for an experienced Attorney with litigation experience in Illinois, with additional experience in Indiana and/or Wisconsin a plus. The Staff Attorney will strive to deliver the best possible results in pending litigation. In this position the Attorney reports to the Assistant Managing Attorney. Our ideal candidate is an Attorney with experience and the ability to become able to independently handle cases from inception through trial.RESPONSBILITIES:• Handle assigned litigation and non-litigated legal work.• Analyze substantive and procedural legal and factual issues, conduct legal research, independently develop and present defense strategies on behalf of clients• Prepare pleadings, depositions, motions and briefs in support of litigation strategies without supervision because of level of experience and expertise• Provide effective and timely communications, information, legal advice and other services to clients and claims customers on legal and factual issues in a technology driven environment• Show ability to become able to independently prepare and present witnesses and evidence at trials, judicial and administrative hearings and alternative dispute resolutions• Provide opinions to Managing Attorney, Assistant Managing Attorney, staff, clients and claims customersQUALIFICATIONS:• Juris Doctorate (JD) from accredited law school and license to practice in good standing in the State of Illinois, with Indiana and/or Wisconsin licenses a plus• Minimum of 3 years of legal experience in Litigation• Strong legal research and writing skillsWHAT ELSE CAN YOU TELL ME?This position is a remote work opportunity; however, our selected candidate will travel for appearances at assigned venues as needed.CompensationThe listed annualized base pay range is primarily based on analysis of similar positions in the external market. Actual base pay could vary and may be above or below the listed range based on factors including but not limited to performance, proficiency and demonstration of competencies required for the role. The base pay is just one component of The Hartford’s total compensation package for employees. Other rewards may include short-term or annual bonuses, long-term incentives, and on-the-spot recognition.
